Fair point. About 500hp of turbo power is going to be a s**t load of torque

I'm a bit undecided as to what to do with the gearbox, that's the reason why progress is going a tad slow.

I'm not sure if I should risk putting a 6 box on, if I take that risk, then I can get the £600 clutch and crack on with it, but the box I doubt will last that long.

I could go to the effort of putting a different box on, focus rs mk1 for example, using a bell housing adapter and flywheel spacer, but that means a lot of custom work and a set of custom shafts.

That choice delays the clutch choice, because the clutch plates will be different to match the gearbox splines.

Not sure what to do tbh.

I'm interested to see how whatever box you choose gets on with the power and torque, as i may just copy you once i start chasing more power. LOL

Yeah thats a good point , you could get it cryo treated but even then you are probably going to put about 100 ftlbs more torque in that than anyone else.

This bloke had 400 at the wheels

Why don't all the high boost lot do this?
Is the ml6 as strong as the 5?

Just found his project thread.
Firstly
A in the end he ran and got working a Citroen evasion box which I assume is a ml5

B he got 440hp at the wheels!
C 1.3 bar on standard internals.
WTF!
I think we can safely say the box will take the power then......

442whp in the end for 6months before he sold it, so that's over 500bhp at the flywheel and I imagine around 450ft lbs of torque.

Sounds good to me Smile

Now...

How do I fit it lol.

ML5T bellhousing from the turbo models, should bolt straight on IIRC

So from my research, I need a later gearbox and a turbo bell housing so it fits the xu block.

Surely I could just use the ML5T box, or is it not as sime as that?

Cheers eliotrw, I hope it's good when I eventually Finnish it.

Phill - shut it LOL

Might wanna check the gear ratios, I think some of the Citreon models have higher final drives if you need more legs.

Did the crank get balanced along with the flywheel and crank pulley ? just out of interest or do you not need to bother doing that on turbo lumps ?

I haven't had the flywheel balanced, I never had a problem with the previous engine with same spec Smile

Am I right in thinking the 2.0l 8v turbo runs an ml5 gearbox? With cables and hydraulic clutch on some cars.

Surely I could just get one of these and the ratios And strength in comparison to a Hdi box be ok?

Ratios seem ok to me on the 406 8v turbo box, I just hope its strong enough.
