Hey guys, wondered if anyone can offer any suggestions to why my fuel pump is no longer priming?

Was on a drive last weekend, and went over a bump, and about 5 seconds after was not able to accelerate, pressing the pedal did nothing. Changed down gears and into neutral and it cut out.

It would then start, but die straight away. When ignition is turned, the pump is not priming.

So far I have:

- checked wiring to sensors etc
- pressed and checked intertia switch
- replaced the fuel pump relay
- replaced the fuel pump

It runs an unlocked ECU, so its nothing to do with the immobiliser.

Is there a fuse for it? If so, which one. Other than that I'm running out of ideas.

Cheers Smile

Have you tried a multimeter on the connector that plugs into the pump and checked if it's getting any voltage?

When you say you've checked the inertia switch - how have you checked it? Personally I'd wire it out just to rule it out completely Smile

Agree with Steve. Bridge the inertia connection and see if that makes a difference.

Link the inertia switch out as said, and if it still doesn't run put 12v direct to the pump and check the pump runs.

Providing it does, I reckon it could be a fuse. Yes

I reckon it's user error, if you lived in your 6 you would know the fuel pumps are known to prime without keys being in them. You've bought a dud my friend.

Fuse 9 in the engine bay box...

I had a very similar issue with my 6 the other week. I spent a whole day trying to get it to run. First thing I'd tried was replacing the relay - only to discover that the one i swapped it with was equally broken. After following smighall's FAQ about bridging pins 5 & 8, I tried the relay off my Rallye with great success. Can only think it was the freezing conditions killing relays randomly.

I'd tried bridging that and the inertia cutoff to eliminate both.

    Oh, and moved to Engines!
