(Can people please not post crap here so the thread gets locked please)

What's going on then? Can you explain why I've had my membership revoked with no refund and no explanation? I've lost count of the number of posts I've had ignored by admins over the years, would be good if someone can reply to this one please.

Many thanks.

Ok guys, thanks for the love over the last 12 hours. Thumbs up

I really dont know what to say, or what you even want from the current "Admins". I think you need to appreciate how little influence we have and the fact that we are doing our best to serve you well.

We have no control over the running of the site, no involvement in the technical side/resolving faults, deciding how the forum works and taking on board feedback suggestions or in issuing or revoking membership.

The site belongs to captainash and I can't speak on his behalf about any of the recent decisions he's taken - regardless whether I agree with them or not. Perhaps I should break my silence and delcare my personal views more openly, but that might be seen to undermine Ash's choices.

In terms of recent days activities, there's a lot of accusations being thrown around, so just to clarify:

  • Neither I (nor any other admin) have locked a single thread - they all got automatically locked after 5 "abuse" reports. There's nothing I can do to override this once they've been locked.

  • Yes, I did ban the Toadfish, Steph, Hen etc accounts. There's a sticky saying that's exactly what'll happen when spurious accounts get created - and that their creators will also have action taken. I don't know how better to have handled this. If we do nothing, then everyone'll join the band wagon and we'll have all out anarchy, if I take action and post about it, it'll decend into being abuse being asked to justify my actions and if I do, as I did, some quiet admining I get accused of a conspiracy. My intention was to let Soulman and Gilesy (who's had this conversation before) stew for a while before unlocking - but that only works if they even have a modicum of respect... so I've already unlocked their accounts

  • I most certainly haven't revoked Owain's membership deliberately. I agree that noone has the right to do that. This appears to be another bug when editting a profile through the admin console (I removed his "meatspin" signature). For what it's worth, it's done the same to my own membership when I editted to remove my For Sale footer. That's why noone can PM me either. I will try and get Ash to fix this as soon as possible and Owain, please accept my apologies.

  • Personally, I have no interest in diluting what made this club good; the banter and fun. Jim and I have tried hard over the years to be good representatives for you. To try and maintain equilibrium on a site for the common good but I'm beginning to think you're impossible to please. There is certainly no reason to make things personal.

I don't know what you all want. You wanted a "pay for" site to prevent trolling, but as soon as that happens you're up in arms, you say an admin presence is needed to move threads around, but then complain when threads are moved. You want threads to be moderated, but then complain when threads get locked.

I have already said to Ash that I support a number of the suggestions/volunteers, so trust me I'm doing all I can.

Agreed, as an old skool member along with Khj100, in my personal view both Kev and Jim have been both active and fair in their decisions over the years, and overall executed a good job when it comes to the forum.

Cheers for the response Kev, that's honestly much appreciated.

I must say I've never had any run-ins with you in the past, always seem to have gotten on well which is why I was a little surprised when I suddenly had my membership revoked last night, but if it's just yet another bug that's fine, and I apologise to you if I said anything out of line. I would quite like my membership back so I can follow threads again though LOL

It's a shame Ash seems so uninterested in the site, it wouldn't take much to get it back on track and good fun again. Yesterday was a really good day of banter I thought, everyone knows the threads will eventually get locked and the new accounts banned, but it really doesn't do any harm to the site. People who aren't following the thread don't get notified, it doesn't cause issues for anyone. In fact I saw more people saying "this is why I love this site" than "this is childish and immature, I'd like a refund".

I know it's not you guys who get threads locked, personally I think that auto-lock thing should just get removed altogether - surely if someone's trolling/spamming it's better to keep in in one easy-to-control thread? Locking it just means another thread will get started. With regards to this:

People want to enjoy being here. People did want a site where noobs can't come along banging on about their XSI with p*ss-poor spelling and grammar, but making people pay was never going to stop that. I've never known anyone have a problem with a thread being moved, but I've seen countless people point out how completely pointless it to do so when the thread's already been answered. This idea of banning people clearly doesn't work either, as both the people who got banned just immediately signed up with other accounts.

I appreciate you're in a tough position; you're partially responsible for the site but clearly aren't going to start slating Ash and telling us private chats you've had. Maybe there's loads going on behind the scenes to fix the bugs and sort everything out, but I very much doubt it somehow.

I just think it's a shame, that's all. This site used to be such a laugh and an amazing resource for information and luckily a few people are still willing to help out, but even then they can only do so by ignoring Ash's requests and just answering unpaid members' questions in General. I'd genuinely like it to get back to that stage where everyone mucks in, gets involved and has a bit of banter whilst making it clear that idiot chavs aren't tolerated, but that needs Ash to show he gives a shit.

So fair play, I have no hard feelings towards anyone (well, maybe Ash a bit) and we can all get on with our lives. Having my membership back would be handy though Thumbs up

Although to be fair I was Method Man and Steph Scully, so I should probably get banned for a bit Whistle

Yes you should, purely for not creating a Harold Bishop account.

Good post though, think it outlines a lot of issues many members have about the site at present

Well just so you know, I could have done the same but seriously couldnt be f*cked to. I wasnt trying to hide anything. I even used a Soulman email address. And I f*cked up a few times posting as Ryan Moloney when I wanted to be Soulman. then I had the idea of f*cking up on purpose.

I think after a year has passed Ash should close the site and make it "read only" for information. Everyone b*tches and moans about the site yet are still regularly coming on it and I can't see why Ash even bothers with the hassle any more.
