Has anyone done one of these to gain a full unrestricted license? It's my 21st coming up and my old man would like me to have something I can keep as a present. With no current experience of riding a motorbike other than riding a couple of scooters, is this a sensible approach? i've always been interested in bikes, but never fancied riding round on a moped for 2 years!________________________________________ team: Stealth |

I would say do it, but have a very healthy respect for what you going to buy/ride after your test.IMO going up in stages is probably the best way to learn your craft as a biker |

I'd thought about doing this, did my theory but never got around to doing the course. My plan was to do the DAS scheme to get the legal side out the way, then only buy a small bike and self-regulate, if you like. The problems are when people do DAS then buy some 1200cc superbike then kill themselves, if you're sensible I think it's the way to go. Housemate did it a couple of years ago passed, straight on to Triumph sprint 955, now has a that and a Hayabusa 1300cc superbike. Although the Triumph is SORN ATM.I got p*ssed up one night and booked the same course then remembered I don't particularly like motorbikes so cancelled. Mate did stage way and soon after pottling around Isle of Wight on his gay Vespa he can't wait to move up. I did mine in July, never ridden a geared bike on the road before. Did one day CBT, 3 days training and then passed both tests, both with no faults. Was easy really, hardest bit is the slow speed stuff and getting used to the gears. I'm properly glad that I did it. I went out and bought a 600cc sports tourer (Yamaha Thundercat if you want to google it) and it's comfortable to ride, does 55MPG and is very, very quick. It's great fun, I'd encourage anyone to do it!  |

It would be one of the 5 day courses I'd be looking at doing which involves the CBT aswell. I would have done it in stages, but I couldnt afford to run a car and bike at the same time while a student. The idea behind gaining my license would be to have it there for when I could afford to run a bike too, say in the next couple of years. I could hear the indraw of breath from my father when i suggested it, but he has bikes himself, so he can understand. It's a toss up between the bike license or a nice game o/u shotgun, as I have a semi auto and I can't take it anywhere!________________________________________ team: Stealth |

Do it ASAP as the rules are going to change for younger people next year, making it harder/take longer to get a full licence  |

i did my test about 5yrs ago.i had never ridden a bike before and it was the best thing i ever did. passed me bike test first time with no faults,but the theory took me three goes have to pass it.i still have bought a bike yet, but am looking to buy one this year or next year., so i would say go for it. |

I done my cbt in august and got a wee 125 to learn on hope to do my theory in sprung the 3day course summer then will get out on the bandit 600!!________________________________________ In my garage just now2003 BMW M3 & 2009 L200 Raging Bull & Audi Q5 S Line AX stock rod & Saxo Stock rod Sold the bike an charged rallye an bought a caravan, midlife crisis or what! |

i did mine and got a vfr 400 as a first proper bike, it was that good i still have it 7 years on. The test back then was fairly easy and a bit cheaper as they have introduced the hazard awareness Now. I'd say go for it as even if you don't get a bike it is there for when you get the itch ________________________________________ ex team astorstill team miami 205 gti-6 |

think if you book a block for the test ect around 500+ odd and my m8 told me there making it only up to 500cc or somthing untill ure 25 in march =/ |

DAS: Did it myself. Go for it. Just have a healthy respect for big bikes, and keep your eye's out for complacent drivers. Also, don't go out when the temps fall below 6oC, believe me, you'll regret it! |

f*cking pussies, I did over 100 miles last weekend in my summer gear, it was 1*c. Yes I was cold, but it doesn't stop me going out on it! My dad even gave me an old set of heated grips when I got to his place  |
