As above. I have a choice; fit new track rods to the HDI rack in situ or fit the track rods to a Gti6 rack that I have and fit that to the HDI. The HDI steering feels very light and slower geared than my Gti6 and would prefer the better response. Is this something that would be a straight swap? Are there different drive splines between the column and rack input?

The Gti6 rack is from a '97 P2 and the HDI is an '01 P3. Also I'm not sure if the HDI has variable power steering or not. According to servicebox the HDI has a 4000 CL and the Gti6 has a 4000 V7.

Thanks in advance.

It was a straight swap. Thanks.
It's all fitted now and tracked up. It drives much better now; more responsive, quicker turn in and slightly heavier with more feel. It complements the Gti suspension very well. Chuffed.

Big grin i wanted to say somthing but was starting to get confused myself! So its the rack that makes it feel different/heavier on the 6. Thought it may be the pump with a pressure limiter or somthing of the sort.

Cant you also fit a zsara vts rack to the gti6? It requires less turns lock to lock or something?

I didn't make it that clear in the first post and also I shouldn't have been posting about a vehicle that uses the "devil's fuel" anyway so you're off the hook Smile

I'm not sure TBH. It was an experiment. The HDI rack was very light to steer vs my Gti6 so thought I'd give it a go. It definately feels higher geared/quicker to turn in so I assume it is geared differently. There is mention of a variable steering rack on servicebox; maybe the HDI uses one that makes it light at low speed for easy parking etc?
