You know that thick aluminum heatshield that bolt into either the block or the exhaust cam cover? The one that sort of shrouds around the manifold? If I wrap my manifold can I do without it?
The reason I ask is the top left bolt that secures it can't tighten properly as the thread in the actual engine is stripped slightly. This means between 3k and 4k revs it makes very annoying noise. So what do you think is it worth a shot? Someone has mentioned previously that running without one can melt the cam gaskets and also the brake fluid reservoir is close by.
Do you think I'm better off tapping ( is that the right term) the hole out? My mate has a kit of bits that can make new threads or whatever but I'm doubting there will be one in the kit like this as to me the bolts look pretty unique. I dunno what do you lot think? I'm open to ideas, anyone experienced the same?

BTW I dont mean that fireproof type foil one behind the engine that is attached to the bulkhead.
This one is actually on the engine...

bolts are far from unique, they're just standard m6.
