Good morning guys,

My gears have been a bit stiff to get into for a while, and 4th has been crunching, so I got a new clutch cable which made a massive difference to the other gears however my 4th gear still crunches after about 40mph, any ideas?

Could gear linkages cause something like this or am I more likely looking at a messed up clutch of gearbox?

Cheers

Cheers,

Are they easy or expensive fixes if so (Synchro)? Guess thats a bit how long is a piece of string.

I will check my gear oil, all the other gears seem pretty damn smooth though.

Check the oil level first and what grade is in there? I recently found out my box had sx 75/90 in which caused a crunch into 2nd now I have put the correct stuff in and the box is now faultless Smile

You could get the 3rd/4th gear hub rebuilt for about £150 but maybe a second hand box would be the better option.

Not a cheap fix, labour to remove and refit the box if not off, Then the box, New Hubs are around £190 with VAT from Pug or S/H around £40.00, labour to strip clean and check it all over then I always recommend new Input shaft bearings as these do wear, re-shim, New seals (OE) so around £550.00 all in depending on parts

Dibs on it being the synchro ...

Mine does exactly the same dropping down from 4th to 5th if the revs are low. Have just learnt to match the revs.

With the revs right it's the best gearchange in the box !
