An oxymoron perhaps, but as mine remains my daily driver I'm keen to explore my options.

The car is semi-stripped (see project thread for pics), so the parcel shelf is obviously a thing of the past, leaving just the standard 2xdoor speakers, which barely have what it takes to compete with the fuel pump, let alone road noise, exhaust and all the miscellaneous crap which hits the underside of the car

What have people done? I dont want to carry a filthy great subwoofer around, but i would like better sound.

Ahh a brace of useful answers!

I should've said, another prerequisite is that I still want here the cheers and cries, and people shouting "you're cool" as drive through towns and villages.

How stripped is the car? Even when partially stripped it takes a surprising amount of volume to cancel out the road noise, I had an iPod dock thing on the passenger seat when mine was only half stripped and it needed to be on almost full whack and sounded awful.

Best bet would be some full-range speakers in the doors, plus the tweeters from a phase 3 (iirc).

I am in this boat too.

Even though I have metal door cards, I cut them so I could still keep my door speakers. Sound quality is always going to be shit though when you have no interior/carpet etc.

You can do what Mabs has done though and have them built into rear door cards?

Whats the scale? I'd say its abuot a 6. Alternatively, i'd say shes down to her pants (but still sensible), underwire bra and maybe a silk scarf.

For the non audio savvy - whats full range? Are they the speakers allowed to roam free around vast open pastures, feeding on fair trade Watts?

Hmm, big pants could slow you down on track.

Full range = base, mid and treble, 20Hz-20kHz. The standard ones in the front (iirc, I never really used them) only really did bass and mid, the rears and front tweeters were used for the treble.

In this scenario, are the tweeters separate to the cone bit? I've seen tweeters popped into the void where manual wing mirror adjusters would be, but in the rallye, thats where the manual wing mirror adjusters are...

might as well put the interior back in, save spending cash fitting lots of heavy sound equipment...

Im sure its possible to improve the sound quality without adding much weight. Even if its simply replacing the front speakers/adding 2 in the rear somewhere.

How about something along the lines of this boombox
just wire up a 12v lead to power it, remove for track lightness

That was my solution for an 18 hour drive to adenau this year. It was an awful idea and in the end i resorted to borrowing some headphones. LOL

Laugh my ass off

I was a fan of the removable weight so once i got to the track i didnt have any un-necessary weight in the car. Plus, nobody in their right mind would want to steal the crappy little radio. LOL

and be sure to add an amp if you want it to go a tad louder Smile

(and I happen to have some rather lightweight amps for sale Smile -see link in my signature below- )

put it all together and make it plug&play so you can take it out for a trackday, perfectly do-able

The main problem with putting speakers and a stereo in a track car is the extra weight added by your blouse and ovaries.
