Newer cars are mostly barges though, way too heavy.

The amount of fun for the £700 mark you got from the 6 compared the expense & fun of the other cars is massively in favour for the 6.

Im sure a high boost super charge 6 would kill all those cars, and they can fit 7 people in, ive seen some Asian people with 7 passengers in my area before now lol.

When it comes to the 6, i feel the road through my finger tips, cant say that about most newer cars.

So for 10k you can get a faster better handling 6 and it wont loose much in value compared to new cars which generally loose 1k driving off the forecourt.

Sorry but that made me LOL

The people who spend 10-15K building S/C or Turbo cars and then selling them for 4-5K or breaking them for a little more will disagree with you I think.

Its not a sellers market now though is it, if it was im sure they would sell for more. I only took a guess at what it would cost for a high boost. The 6 is going up in price the more that are being broken and less are about, its just taking its blooming time.

Still, for the price and feel you get from the 6 compared to other cars is great. It's almost as good as the 205 gti is on the road.

Taking Jim's point in saying there's better cars out there...of course there is but for £1500, what brilliant value for money they are to make you smile going round a corner at high speed. As opposed to £10,000 for an evo.

I must admit, I wouldn't spend £5k let alone £10k on my rallye to make it go faster without thinking: Oh, I can get a mercedes CL55 AMG for £7000. or an evo etc.

No matter what certain people on here say they are fooking great cars. They were great when they were launched they're great now and will be great in the future. They tick every single box!

With the residual value I've amassed of ~£5.5k for having one of the last out the factory, why would I want to part with the shed I own?

i dont own a 306 gti6/rallye but i do have a gti6 in my 205

i love my pug because they remind me of being young when i used to watch the cars come past the fence at school and me and my friend used to play "bagsy that", back then it was probably around 1990-91 so the 205 gti would of been pretty damn new

ive owned quite a few performance cars over the years, most powerful being the pulsar gtir(running around 300bhp) and the best car overall being the integra type r(standard) and believe me the integra was stupidly good especially for a standard car, it didnt handle like a fwd car, but for some reason i ended up selling these cars cause they were so dull and too clinical, and went back to another 205 gti(ive owned 4 now) and they just make you grin, make you feel happy when you drive them, despite all the faults they have somehow they even add to the grin factor

jap cars are like a thai bride marriage with no arguments, no drama and she will do as she is told, a 205 gti is like a marriage that has ups and downs, blazing rows but at the end of the day you make up and have awesome aggressive sex afterwards!

same, well only 6 years for me. Suppose supercharging it didnt help me lose interest in it and move on.

got a 306 estate diesel as my run about, did plan a new "2nd" car either a 4x4 or new peugoet (as they are just down the road from my house).
but having to put it to garage to maintain, intial cost, insurance, tax of a decently powered 4x4 and depreciation etc kind of made me hold on to 700£ car thats cost me next to nothing, other than few hours of my own time over past year and half

Had mine for three years, loved every minute of it. Its currently for sale as I need some space. When I need a new car though, the first thing I'm looking for is a late as possible 6.

I wouldn't, it will have spent several months of its life sat in a field waiting for someone to buy it LOL

They are ok, fun, not that cheap really to run and yes you can go mental on a track or b road.
But you can do that with a lot of cars. Sure some don't have the feedback but its still not on 205 terms.

So for me I don't own one because:

1. You can't fit the stuff in that I need to fit
2. mpg is crap if you think a 1500kg 2.3 turbo car is the same and is quicker
3. They aren't very reliable - HG, cambelt made of cheese, beam
4. I had my Rallye for 5 years and it was time to move on
5. I think they are heavy for their size, but also not mega-safe either

I love my 6 because you don't see them at any corner or roundabout over here. For me it is a question of individuality as i would hate to be driving a Golf 3 or 4 like the most mates i have. Sure it's French and it has faults, but i find it sooo much better looking than even most modern hot hatches on the market right now.
Although me and the missus are considering buying a Golf 6 GTD or a Scirocco TDI for the long trips to her parents i told her right away that i would not sell the 6. I'll keep it as my toy/summer car and will gradually upgrade it to a even better handling and sc'd weapon that will put other hot hatches as the new Golf GTI or Civic TypeR to shame.
