i have the ability to fix it myself.

just not the knowledge to be 100% confident what im doing is correct.
or all the tools
or the time (more work (90hr week) means less free time to tinker but more money to get it fixed

As said already, I'd contact trading standards. They'll inform you what the best thing to do is. Sounds like a pretty shite situation though, hope you get it all sorted Smile

Difficult depending on what's broken, But seeing the ABS sensors were needed when there's no need to touch them would really think they have no idea on what they are doing, unless the ABS was faulty of course,
How do you know there's a Airlock on the heater Matrix, These car's are quite easy to bleed unlike the TU version's

Had something like this happen next door on a Clio, went for a cambelt and now she's faced with a 2500.00 for a new engine as there's no compression he's blaming that on the engine and not him buggering the belt change up.

Is there any mobile mechinc's around your way even if it costs a hour's labour at least you will have some info then.

But I would think if the engine was deemed faulty by 'X' then all the garage would do is change it with a S/H one,

Spend 3.5k and the guy won't even look at it without making you pay more money?

Sounds like a motherf*cking hero.

If you think it could be something as silly as the starter motor then you need to bump start it. If bumping it doesn't work then the issue is elsewhere.

From reading the thread i doubt the engine has seized tbh.

He said the car doesnt move in gear even with the plugs out so something sounds seized to me and attemting to bump start it will do nothing other than cause a lot more damage.

I thought cars didn't move in gear when the engine is switched off anyway?

Genuinely I cannot see you getting a penny out of him, and to a degree rightfully so. It's your car and your responsibility, he did the work you paid him to do. Can you prove you didn't try and do an oil change yourself that evening and forgot to refill it? Can you prove you weren't driving 20 miles with the temp in the red and just didn't notice it?

The engine's done 100k miles, it's not unreasonable for it to go wrong unfortunately. These are old flaky cars, hence why no-one in their right mind would pay that kind of money for basically a service.

From your list of stuff done the only thing that could cause a sieze would be the water pump, and if that went your temperature guage would've been off the scale before it damaged the engine, which it's your responsibility to notice.

And why are you talking about having an engine rebuild, have you not ploughed enough into it?! Buy a second-hand one for £400 and just drop it in.

It's a shitter, but it's done now. If I were the mechanic, I wouldn't offer to pay either. There is no legal case here, certainly not one that's not going to cost you thousands of pounds in legal fees just to lose.

But that's kinda my point, no-one is going to guarantee you a ten-year-old engine is going to be reliable for the next few years. If you need that, you should've just bought yourself a low-mileage diesel for £5k.

It was an independent garage. Given the list of work and time taken I wouldn't call them a specialist though.

Ironically a Peugeot dealership would have been cheaper.

The best engine in the world is the vagina, it takes any size piston, its self lubricating, starts with 1 finger, and every 4 weeks does its own oil change. It's just a pity the management system is so fecking temperamental.

Easy swap with a S/H, either swap the belt parts across and you could have a engine and fitting for around £700.00, anymore and it's expensive again
