well ive been browsing ebay alot recently hoping to bag myself a 205 rallye, and now there is one on there but its all the way in devon(about 4 hour drive for me) thing is the only reason im after one is because of their rarity and also to maybe reshell my gti6 running gear from my current 205 into it. thing is ive never driven one but am i right to say the rallye is inferior to the normal 205 gti(in 1.6 and 1.9) in every department?

far as i know the rallye was made as a homologation special and is stripped to the barebones with a 1.3 engine which would make it almost as quick as the 1.6 205 gti, with my current 205 pretty much bareboned can i really expect the rallye to be much lighter?

discuss, cheers Thumbs up

They are a 1.4 TU iron block. Very long gear ratios, not as quick as a 1.6gti but then not miles off. Dont worry bout that if you are going to gti6 it though!

I think my brothers weighed in at 760 odd kilos when it was fully stripped with an mi-16 engine in it (alloy block). Not sure what weight difference would be between the original 1.4 engine and a gti6, i shouldnt think more than 25-30 kg's though.

Bear in mind the subframe would need to be changed for the XU engine to be fitted, not a major task though!

*Edit. Will be 1.3 if euro model though?

I wouldn't bother buying an uk rallye, as mentioned above they are pants, get an XS if you want to stay 1360cc, or an euro rallye if you want the real deal.

or if you want a rallyealike with an xu engine then any base model shell will do.

Exactly. UK versions are only worth it if you want the 'name'.

I like them in yellow.

Got my euro rallye up for sale but would be sacriledge to strip it and put a 6 engine in it... also got a very tidy 1.9 rolling shell ready for a 6 and a 6 engine freshly rebuilt by his lordship above Welshpug destined for the same car. Also in the parts for sale bit....

theres not many about now though you will find them on french ebay with 300k up em for 2-4k euros. best examples are 4,5k + but be prepared to travel. they are appearing for sale occasionally here for £2.5k to £5k
Mr warner of tewkesbury peugeout has a mint ball one 30k(kilometres) that i dont think you'll get change out of 10 k to buy.

Adam get it bought and stop me doing a Richard burns tribute with it....

wow i hadnt realised the rallye was worth so much, i would of imagined they would of cost roughly as much as the gti but never had thought it would be so much

obviously the uk spec ones that ive seen on ebay were the wrong ones to look at lol!!!!!

but good luck with the sale, that car is the sex!

the uk ones are starting to fetch stupid amounts considering what they are....but IMO thats because they have all been crashed written off, turned into track rally cars and the straight genuine ones are now getting really rare. still wouldnt pay the money for one unless of course its like rallyash's demon.

check out his project thread. dont mind a uk car being pulled to bits especially if the result is as good as ash's

does it actually say 'ralleye' on the log book? because surely it is just a xs if it does not with fancy stickers on it, i remember going to tenerife some years back and i must have got there the day after a rally had finished as there were about 20 of the 205 ralleyes around where we were staying i thought it were odd only being a 1300 that so many people used them for rallying

Buy a 205 1.4 GT, in my experience it handles better than the XS and has a stronger 205 shell, not driven a Rallye though.

Closest ive ever got to a 205 rally was when i was at 6th form college in 1990, I was ripping round in a lowered Mk1 Fiesta supersport and a mate was lucky enough for his mum to buy him a brand new 205 XS 3dr 1.4. Fook me did that shift compared to my Fiesta! I drove it a few times and it was really supple and quick for an 18yr old!

I can only imagine the twin carb frog spec would be even more fun

    How's the shell stronger?

Uk rallyes only had 75bhp so 10 down on an xs!

It has 5 doors so needs more strength to cope with them, im not sure if the sills are stronger though.

It was just a Dealer badge/Special Ed exercise (UK getting the poor offerings again), I think it was on service box I found the decal kit to be fitted at the supplying dealer before sale.
Never seen the point of them then or now
