hi guys

i have noticed i got a knock coming from the rear of my car and it getting that annoying i need to sort it out soon. i have had the car on a ramp with a pry bar in on the rear mounts to see if there knackered or broke but i cant seem to fault them.

is there a chance the rear mounts are knackered or could it be rear shocks?

I have it too - going over bumps it sounds like exhaust is hitting floor, but isn't. I've not got any play either, so had been difficult to diagnose.

Options I'm investigating are -

ARB end plate/bolt secured.

Knackered rear mounts.

I've ordered new mounts from Pug and am hoping to get it sorted soon.

Not cheap - can't remember exact price (still waiting for the dealer to assemble all the bits) at least £200 for the 4 mounts IIRC.

Loose bolt at one end of the damper? Had that one mine, so the damper was moving side to side, only by a millimetre or so but was enough to cause a hefty knock.

Also check the damper bushes. I've got a knackered one on my Bilsteins and it knocks like mad.

Good tips - maybe we should have a FAQ for rear beam knocking. I'd looked before and couldn't find one. Am definitely adding above points to my list (even though my rear bushes look nasty and need doing anyway).

bit of an updated with a result

well i managed to get the car on me ramp today in work and look for this knocking.once the back wheels were off the floor i found loads of play in the bushes of the rear shock.worn and perished.
my next questions is- i have knoi gas shocks on the back(were on the car when i bought it),would you recommend to get the new bushes or should i buy couple of new shocks?

what sort of rear shocks should i go for,i something that will work well and be ok for when going on the track.

genuine replacement shocks are more than ample imho

i've found that the only reason the bushes deteriate (sp?) is that the bolts have not been tightened with the weight of the car on the wheels

The bushes are cheap enough. £6 each plus post direct from Bilstein, so I'm guessing a similar amount from Koni.

I'm doing my rear beam mounts in the next couple of weeks, but might as well check these too as they could be the source of my noise.

Would anyone know whether these bushes are aval separately at Pug (i.e. without having to buy new shocks) or would the Koni/Bilstein ones fit?

Thanks. I have standard rear shocks. I will ask Pug and see if the shock eyelet bushes can be purchased separately.
