Hello all, after some advice from you track day gurus Smile

Been thinking about buying some slicks to use on the front wheels, and r888's on the rear, discuss...

Thought this may be a good way to do it as running slicks on the rear wont get any heat in them in our cars.

I have heard that you need to set your car up differently if running slicks, if so, what needs to be changed/adjusted?

Any advice appreciated Big grin

Thanks

fit the same all round is the first tip!

spring rates and camber/toe settings can be vastly different

Ok, will stick with what I have then if I should keep the same all round.

Last time I was at Rockingham though it felt like the back end wanted to get away through some corners and when I came in the fronts were roasting hot and the rears were cold.

I only ended up having the one session in the end, I was going to adjust them for the next one to see if it made a difference.

To be honest, I dont think I help myself with the current suspension setup, the rear needs work!

Front:

- KW V2 Coilovers
- RichW Roller bearing wishbone bushes
- OMP upper strut brace
- Toyo R888 tyres

Rear:

- Stffer than standard rear beam mounts
- Bilstein rear shocks
- Yoko A048 tyres

I aim to get the following sorted out for next summer though, which should help a lot:

- Hybrid arb
- bigger torsion bars (xsara 21mm probably)
- Solid mounts
- Adjustable rear shocks
- Beam rebuild

yeah quite an imbalance there, you'd be getting some understeer with it setup like that.

would have at least put the 48's on the front tbh, they're likely to last a little longer on track in my experience though of course only if the pressures and camber are correct.

probably need 22-23mm bars to match KW's, any idea what their spring rate is?

In all fairness I would rather have some understeer than oversteer Laugh

I found it to be ok though, felt very good, and certainly much better (less understeer) compared to the old Avo/Eibach setup I ran.

The reason I put the 48's on the rear is they were part worn, and the 888's were new. Thought it made sense and the rears take ages to wear down Smile

Heh, don't try Rockingham in the wet then Thumbs up

I run the same V2s at the front as you do, and the accompanying shocks at the back, although I'm told they're just rebranded Koni's back there. I have the Xsara bars and hybrid ARB on mine as well which does seem to keep the car pretty flat.

What you should've done is seen if you knew anyone at Rockingham recently who could've taken you round in your lunch break Whistle

why put the a048's on the rear?

and dont see why you cant get heat in rears unless you bought hard slick's?

even my 205 can warm the rears,

or you drive like a girl...lol

It's not like I was sliding all over the place, but after my 15 minute session, the fronts were a lot hotter than the rears thats all.

I'm definitely not an experienced track driver like yourself, but I certainly don't drive like a girl Laugh
