Any one have a similar problem or any technical knowledge on this this one.

My heater doesnt start blowing very hot air until the coolant temperature becomes 90 deg or more.

This started to happen after I changed the radiator and thermostat, both genuine peugeot parts.

The problem is, with the new radiator, the engine never tends to get to 90 deg unless it has been stationary a long while or after driving for a while and stopping at traffic lights for example; This is a problem when trying to demist the car on cold mornings as it takes forever for the coolant to warm up while not being driven; Then when in motion it quickly cools back down to between 70-75 deg, so i almost never get very hot air into the car. I never used to have this problem before with my old radiator, it used to heat up fairly quickly, before it broke anyway, lol.

I may have filled the coolant system with overly more parts water than coolant would that have anything to do with it?

Any ideas this might help more than just me.

Sounds like you have a thermostat issue and the cooling system is wide open meaning it has to heat the complete system, obviuosly with the cold weather now it wont ever get warm unless stationary.

Have you replaced it correct? ie the right way round?

Carl

I can't remember which way I installed the thermostat.
I take it it is possible to fit the wrong way round then?
I'll have to partially drain the system to have a look which I won't be looking forward to because I haven't got a low drain tap on the rad.
I only want to do this if it's definitely possible to get the thermostat the wrong way round and your sure.

No need to drain the system. Just clamp the top hose then remove the thermostat. It does very much sound like you have installed it the wrong way round Crazy

Then re bleed the system until no air is left easy as peas Thumbs up

What's the difficulty? Are you stuck with changing the thermo stat or bleeding the system?

No no problem with changing the thermostat or bleeding.

I just found out my heater has packed in altogether today no hot air whatsoever even with the engine coolant at 90deg plus.
I'm not so sure the thermostat is the problem though; although that doesn't stop me from checking it; the fans cut in at the correct temperature and cool back down again to below 90 deg. So that means the thermostat is operating correct no?

I am worried that the heater matrix itself is has rusted so no coolant passes through it.

Could it be an issue of the coolant pump being knackered?

I will have a look at the thermostat this week hopefully and let you kno.

It sounds like you have an air lock to me, you need to bleed it all through correctly (look in Faq for guide) and get rid of any air. I would be doing this as soon as you can really as things like this can often be the start of bigger, more expensive problems.

What do you mean no coolant passes through your matrix? How have you checked this?

Ok so if I have an air lock i may not have bled the heater matrix, which would make sense because i did not know one existed; But then i took a look and according to this link [/url=http://http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=61418&page=last] I could not find the heater matrix bleed valve in the same location on my car. This may be because i have a 'P' reg 1997 gti 6 which is slightly disimilar to these photos.

When I bled the rad system i did so first from the top rad, then the thermostat housing, thats it. I knew I didn't do it properly first time round because the engine overheated badly once the thermostat opened, but i nailed it second time round.

So where is the heater matrix bleed valve on mine?
