Have you checked the locating dowels on the starter motor and bell housing?

It may be worth cracking off the starter bolts, and just make sure it's sitting comfortably and not binding on anything. I can't recall how many dowels it locates with, but if there's only one, there may be some room for movement with regards to mounting position, it would just be worth checking.

I can't understand the problem myself - it's a problem i've not encountered before (and 10's and 10's of these flywheels have been successfully fitted).

I am more than happy to look at the flywheel and get it inspected by the manufacturer if you can't get to the bottom of it.

Regards,
Rich

When I changed Pauls gearbox over for him we forgot to refit the starter dowel and that's the noise it made.

yeah i see you replied to both, i thought it was worth commenting here too as this really is the kind of problem that should be discussed in the technical forum i think.

as said in the other thread, i have no reason to doubt the fitting, is it possible the starter could be slow to disengage and that cause the noise?

Sorry, can't really tell from sticking the two posts together - has someone actually figured out what the problem is? Mate of mine has this noise and having bullied him into getting a rich_w one I'd feel a bit responsible if it's being damaged every time it's started.

no i dont think it has been figured out Owain. it makes sense to keep the discussion going here as this is the correct place for it and under the correct title.

basically it could be a locating dowel missing, or if its not that then you're mate is in the same situation as the rest of us... no idea yet Dunno
