Right, I know there are a few threads on this already but ...

I'm planning on changing the front springs for some Eibach ones.

My droplinks are only 1 month old, so should be fine, is ther anything else I should consider replacing?

Haynes manual says pinch bolts, specifically what are these and where can I get them from (treat me as a noob as I have no idea what to ask for or where from)

Same with top mount bearings?, are they specific to the 306 gti6, or if I go into a motor factors are they likely to have some for me?

Is there a shop I can walk into and come out of with these bits, or am I gonna have to order from GSF?

Will my 1month old droplink bolts need replacing (with nyloc jobbies?) or will they be alright to come off and go back on?

Any help will be appreciated,

Cheers, Dave

If you drop in Eurocarparts they will almost definately have your top mount bearings in stock and you can walk out with them.

Would be silly not to do them whilst its all apart.

Not really sure there is much else you can replace whilst your there....your droplinks should be fine to reuse imo

Lower arms ?
Track rod ends ?
I'd slip new suspension on with the new springs as well ?

Pinch bolts hold the ball joint in that is attached the lower arm and the hub ? You can get them from pug or ebay I think ?

Thanks very much,
just the springs this time round, TRE's were replaced a fortnight ago for MOT.
Front shocks will have to wait until the bank manager says so!

Will I be able to get pinch bolts from a place like Eurocarparts?
Or would it be acceptable to refit them with some loctite?

Are the bolts for the rear shocks reusable ?

Many thanks, Dave

Pinch bolts are just M8 x 60mm IIRC, eBay is fine but they absolutely must be 10,9 grade, none of this 8.8 crap. I doubt ECP do them, you might be able to get some from a local fixings place.

Can't remember about the rears.

Hmmm, thanks for the reply.

Will probably not be doing this tomorrow now then, not until I get my hands on the necessary bolts etc.

Any suggestions on a suitable place for fixings?

Cheers, Dave

I actually get mine from a local tractor place who have tons of spares, all in 10.9. It's a John Deere place, might be worth seeing if you have something similar locally? Any kind of lorry/digger/tractor spares place might be a good bet.

Okay smart, Am I right in assuming that Hyanes manual is a bit over cautious in throwing away and replacing nuts etc

I'd say it depends on their condition. Unless they're completely corroded and horrible they should be fine to re-use, although personally I'd nip down to B&Q or similar and get some new nyloc nuts Yes

Thanks for the help, and finally ...

Just seen on ECP that Lemfoder top mounts are £34 each (presumably they include new bearings?)

At this price, it worth just buying a new set of mounts, or just stick with replacing just the bearings? (any ideas on a price just for a pair of bearings??)

Cheers

I'd just got for the bearings, pretty sure they're the only moving part.

I didn't think the bolts were metric fine, pretty sure mine are just normal M8. As they're just bolts it doesn't matter, as long as the nut and bolt are the same obviously.
