So i had a plan....

Sell the 6 buy a bigger/cheaper/diesel family wagon, after trawling through pistonheads, autotrader and getting a shortlist of about 30 cars which i thought dreamed were in my price range (including a bloody mustang) and getting nowhere i decided to see my gti6 off with a couple of sessions on track at castle combe. And came to the conclusion that id rather sell my family than my 6.

Still i decided to keep browsing for a new car in the future i found a car worth looking at about 5 miles away... deposit given and then picked it up this saturday. Not cheap, not diesel... but big.

3.0 v6 manual sport!

Goes well, but now i am stuck with two pretty uneconomical cars and i cant justify keeping both on the road. Guess the wife and my daughter will have to go without food for a while.

Anyone smarter than me, please throw some advice my way.

Yeah i could mate, but not in my price range. plus this was mostly an impulse buy, i wasnt even after a jag. Was thinking more along the lines of a mondeo tdci. Besides, going from a six to something with considerably more weight and/or less power would be a bit of a drag. I have bought 2 other cars since i had the six and both of them were sold within 2 weeks as i missed the six.

Two quite different beasts, unless you are going on holiday with it, or doing long drives I'd stick with the 6.

What about a Ford Mundano TDCI? Cheap as chips to run and will fit the wife and kids quite easily.

I looked at a X type Jag 3.0 V6 a few years ago as a change from a 6.

I am very glad I didn't go for one as they depreciated an awful lot, very quickly.

Pretty much like the GTi6 did actually saying that LOL

They are indeed both very different beasts, but surprisingly economically they are not all that different! Mondeo TDCI would be the sensible choice and i might well get one of them if i get fed up of the jag. Afterall i did think about the ST220. One thing is for sure though, i will not be selling the six... EVER! that thing has ferried me, the wife and my daughter to countless destinations, done thousands of miles a year, never broken down and never cost me any money in repairs. Its the best car i have ever owned but i just fancied something bigger but to be honest there is nothing that actually makes the jag easier for the family than the 306. The jag is indeed much more of a plush car, but i will always like the 6 more.

I think putting the thing on track could be a fun option, and that way i could always put it back on the road if i ever sold the x type.

Had no idea the diesels were noisey (well noisier than a diesel normally is) would only be interested in the 2.2d anyway and they cost a bomb. would be cool to put the jag on track, but surely I'd have to f*ck that 4wd off and put a supercharged 4.2 v8 in it. Don't get me wrong the jag is nice, but so far out of all the cars I have had none were as fun as the 6

ST TDCi 2.2 153bhp/265lb/ft, 6 speed, CD/disc changer, half leather, Full E/W, A/C Elec/heated front seats. Good for 40-45MPG and more on the Motorway. I'd buy one if I was in your position! Thumbs up

Always liked the X-Type', I remember the original advert!

I just remember my sons friend turning up at ours in one a while back and though his dad had bought an old transit.it may have been fooked I don't know but definitely sounded like a transit engine. They put them in mondeos around that time who are ford as are jag.y experience of transits they are not great on mpg.

I drive a transit constantly at work, the newer models are quieter and are still not especially great on fuel, either way the diesel would still get better economy than the 3.0 petrol.
