Had this on another GTi6 years ago and not sure if it's clutch issue or more.

Goes into gears fine, but when coming from say first to reverse off the clutch, it will grind initially. Take my foot off the clutch and depress it again and it goes in. It doesn't seem to like going into reverse only.

Reverse cable issue not selecting?

Unsure why it affects reverse only.

Thanks for the reasurrance that the thing is meant to be shite LOL

It's just odd why it allows it in fine when the clutch is depressed quickly the second time round. Just when its held for a couple seconds while coming to a stop it doesn't like it.

Ahh.. Maybe because it comes to a complete stop from in 1st the first time?

You will find if you are moving forward whilst selecting reverse then it will crunch.

Stop being lazy and stop first Razz

Replace the reverse cable which stretches over time.

If the automatic adjuster isn't working or broken on the clutch cable, depressing the clutch pedal might not be fully moving the pressure plate away from the friction plate causing it to "drag". Consequently when idling with the clutch "in" the friction plate spins up the input shaft on the gearbox and when selecting reverse you try to mesh a moving cog with a stationary cog... Crunch. Try unclipping the clutch cable from the gearbox, push and pull the cable in and out from inside the engine bay to reset the cable and refit. Press the clutch pedal a few times.. it might adjust it to a new position curing your problem. If it doesn't try a new cable.
