Hi guys. It looks like the UJ has gone on my 1989 205 GTI-6 so I'm looking for a replacement (quicker rack if possible). It looks like the Xsara unit has problems fitting so what is the next best option and has anyone got one for sale?

Cheers,

George

I fitted a Xsara P1 rack to my '6 P1 and there were absolutely no problems at all, what problems have you heard of?

I'm not sure whether the Xsara rack is more compatible with a 6 rather than a 205 mate but I read somewhere on the 205 forum that there is a different style of UJ (square?) which requires some modification Unsure

Now then george, What rack has it got at the minute? A 205 pas rack(3.2 turns)is a good upgrade if yours has a non pas one(3.8).

The uj is replaceable mind so that may be easier.

Cheers Allan. It has the 3.2 PAS rack but I find it quite heavy, almost as though there's no power steering.

I have the Xsara rack fitted, it's an easy job if you can find the correct UJ, however, they are meant to be difficult to find.

Took the 205 to a sprint at Ingliston yesterday and it ran great and now I've driven it in anger, I'm quite happy with the 3.2 rack. All I need to know now is the best place to get the replacement UJ assembly. Any ideas guys?
