Went to put my engine on a stand, and realised I had bolts way to large to go through the block.

I am hoping to mount it on the flywheel end, is this the common method?

I can use 2 gearbox bolts to thread into the block, and the bottom 2 aren't threaded, so I will get some bolts longer than standard and nuts, so that's no issue, I just wondered is this the best method for mounting?

The thing is obviously bloody heavy, and I presume gearbox bolts into the block threads at the top will be fine with 2 longer bolts at the bottom?

If there is a better way, I am all ears Smile

The bell housing bolt holes are pretty much the only way of doing it.

Two at the top and two at the bottom. You can use threaded bar with a nut & washer at each end if you can't find long enough bolts.

That's great. Cheers for confirming that Rich.

There is a fixings place near me that are great for things like this. I only need 2 the same as the longest gearbox bolts, just 2 inches longer and some nuts.

Thats what I have used although they only go about 10mm or so into the block, so I have some longer ones I will use with washers as I am worried the full built up engine will put too much strain on them in the formation I could get with the stand bracket

This is how I ended up mounting it.

I would have liked to have gone to that bottom hole on the left, but the other fixing points wouldn't allow it to reach down.

This is how deep the alternator bolts went in:
