for a std gasket the pug one is ideal, MLS and about £40.

enlarger cutouts will drop the compression a little but not sure how much, the marginal skim makes up for it I'd imagine though.

Chris - that'd be handy if you could, I don't know anything about the lifters.

Right, had a look at this again today. Measured up the valves accurately and sure enough they're not bent - the three that wouldn't come out do appear to be mushroomed around the end of the stems.

These stem seals - which bits actually come out? Has anyone got a picture of one out?

Also, how the hell am I ever going to get the collets back in?!

RE collets i think its best to dab a little grease on them to help 'stick' them to the stem.

I haven't had chance to have a play with my scrap head yet as my dads spring compressor isn't big enough to get at the valves, and i can't justify spending £50 odd on a compressor when its only to play about with my scrap head to start with, though i'm sure i would get my moneys worth out of it over the years. Smile

That was my thinking, £42 it cost me in the end.

Shame there are so many things wrong with the head really, kinda lost my enthusiasm to sort it out properly once so many things all appear to be wrong with it.

Yeah, my head is corroded pretty nastily and a few crucial chunks are missing.
Some say i could have it welded then skimmed but i don't see the point spending huge amounts of money on a head that i will never be happy with.
At least it wasn't a tapper so i now have 32 spare good valves Laugh
