Well the new engine is in and almost finished. Got to get the air filter and battery box back in. Its had a new cambelt fitted, wasnt too bad, we were very cautious and took our time. Engine is getting fresh oil and filter, new plugs, new power steering fluid, new gearbox and coolant. Might as well as the engine has sat for a bit.

Then just got to get fluids and oils in and cross fingers that it starts.

Also there is an FAQ that says you need to take the brake servo out, you really dont lol.

It lives!

I have a slight miss-fire and the exhaust is a bit blowy but will swap the coilpacks over from the old engine and get a gasket fitted and job should be a good one. Going to get a garage to check over the cambelt to make sure its at the right tension, timing seems to be spot on so thats good.

Stripped the engine down, 4 bent piston rods haha, if your going to do it, do it properly.

Also just for my own reference, the new engine went in on 124,400 and the new engine is meant to be around 80k's young.

The car is running well now. Got to paint some bits up in the engine bay which I hope to fit soon.

Also when the weather is nicer it will get a damn good clean inside and out. Need to get a few new parts such as plates and maybe wind deflectors.

Had a handbrake cable snap on Friday, so thats now fixed too.

bad news is, I curbed a wheel, I am gutted, but have a plan to repair it, I just need some time to do it, hopefully Saturday.

After falling out with the GTi6 for a bit, I came round and gave it a good clean. Now bad loving it.

5 and a half hours cleaning it.

Cleaned the engine bay, interior then the exterior. For the exterior I:

Washed it.
Clayed it
Washed it again
Dried it
Tar remover
Polished it
Waxed it
Treated the black plastics
Polished the glass
Tar remover on the wheels
Wax on the wheels
Tire shine foam.

Then went and took some pics:

Engine Bay (I have a bit of a transformation coming soon with a painted inlet and cam covers, also a bit of paint on the engine itself)

These are getting painted with wrinkle red:

Even did the underside of the bonnet:

The rear of the car was extremely bouncy. Just changed the Avo shocks for some standard units and handling is much better, so the Avos will be off for a rebuild at some point in the future.

I managed to find a great method to stop the rear being so bouncy, fill the petrol tank haha.

Did you use to own the Avos?

I thought they were bouncing off the stops, but IIRC Matt lifted the car up a bit after that and said they were far better then.

Had a head gasket failure. Sad

It is all fixed now with a refurbed head and a few painted up bits.

It meant another new head gasket (fitted at 130790 miles). Found out the engine overheated resulting in the HGF, the cause, buggered radiator fans.

At least engine bay is looking better.

Still got some finishing touches to do yet.
