Im missing this part on the top of some shocks i have

I was just wondering if i could undo the bolt whilst the car is sitting on the ground and just remove this without any harm being done.

I dont particularly want to use spring compressors as they are quite dangerous, and from what i can see the weight of the car should hold the spring down. But i might be wrong hence asking.

Thanks
John

Thats good, saves me a lot of messing about, i was worried that i was overlooking something really obvious and i would end up with a spring jumping out at me hehe.

Thanks for the reply.

Will give it a go tomorrow, not sure what the metal cup does but the previous owner of the shocks ran without them, i just wanted to make sure everything was as it should be.

Buy your self some decent compressors and take the springs off once the struts are off the car or risk injuring your self!

There is absolutely no risk at all in removing the shock retaining nut while the car is on the ground. The springs don't need to be removed to fit the top cup to the mount assembly.

He'll be fine taking the top nut off a car in situ. He's not touching the shocks, just taking the cups off. I've done it myself before now Thumbs up

I tell you what you should *not* do though - remove the bolts holding it to the strut (to remove your strut brace) and then forget you've done it and jack up the car.

Don't do that and you'll be fine.
