Author Subject: changing brake pads an discs

was changing the front brakes today and ended up as a retarded fail
couldnt get the caliper away from the carrier which was fine as i had to take the whole lot off anyway to change the disc
pushed the piston back into the caliper and finally got the new pads in but then it wouldnt go over the new disc, it seems to hit off the carrier as i try to slide the caliper + carrier back into position to bolt it up

any suggestion what could be wrong or where i've went wrong

Almost certainly piston isn't as far back in as it'll go.

EDIT: "it seems to hit off the carrier as i try to slide the caliper + carrier back into position to bolt it up" - I didn't understand any of this so ignored it, it might hold the key

disc wont go past the part of the carrier in the middle of the pic, at both ends

Put the carrier back on first and then fit the pads and the caliper.

I suspect this will solve the problem, or at the very least give you a much clearer view of what the problem is.

possibly, gave them a measure there 283mm and 22mm thick anythin else that needs to be considered?
i did try puttin the old disc back in to check size an it wouldnt fit either

ah i cant get the bolts out to remove the caliper from the carrier though just rounding

Cut / drill the heads off then. The pads should have come with a new set of bolts anyway.

managed to get them off but havin some bother gettin it back together now
cant get the caliper back on properly to bolt them back in place

yeah disc on then carrier lol
its when i put the pads and caliper back in place, where the caliper bolts into place is a few mm short of being in place

copper grease on back of pads and push firm to put bolts in

that looks like the sliders the should just push in and bolt in from behind! are they seized?
