Can anyone tell me what that button is near the steering wheel and how it works?

Cheers, could this disable the fuel pump at all as it suddenly died the other day but I know it still works

No. Check the fuses and the cut-off switch in the engine bay.

Well took the relay off behind the ecu box and put a wire from the two points, the fuel pump then goes so am I to assume I need a new relay?

probably. they do die. the magnets in the relay seize or break, mine's broke twice in my ownership. nevermind
