this might soud a bit silly but ive just taken a gti6 head off a spare engine i have that i'll be sending away for port/polishing, recon but i was going to get it skimmed (only a tiny bit to clean it up) but i dont really want to skim it and do all that work if its already been skimmed too many times etc.

is there away of telling if the heads already been done before?Blink

any help would be great.

thanks

yeah, measure the total height of it, though I'm unsure what the measurement should be, you can only take 0.25 to 0.30 mm off these safely.

If its been heavily skimmed before the valve heads will stick out lower than the face and the seat will have been cut into slightly.

There are markers at either end of the head, get a photo of the face of the head up Smile
