For the second time in as many weeks my rear pads have decided to make an escape, leaving me without the ability to stop!

Had a look and everything's gone - the pads, the L shaped bar and the retaining clip things.

Why would this happen? I changed the pads and discs about a month back and followed the FAQ without issues. I am seriously worried that this is going to cause a massive accident because I have no confidence in the cars brakes surviving more than a week!

did you put the little clip back though the hole on the l shaped bar? and was it a tight(ish) fit

Yup, did that and it was a solid fit, nothing moved or rattled.

Happened to me last year too, makes a hell of a bang when a pad disappears at 60mph LOL , just get a new brake pad fitting kit, that's what I did and problem solved Smile

Rather common. I've had it happen 3 times on me on various 205/309/306s. I now lock wire them in.

Well the L bar was newish looking and the rest came with the pads, so new retaining clips that go over the back of the pads and new wire to go through the L bar.

When you put the L bar through and fit the little pin make sure you tap the bar back across so the little clip is doing it's job and holding the bar by touching the caliper.

If you leave a gap it can pop the pin out when it moves around as you brake.

bet you put the slider in upside down

have had this happen a couple of times myself, once at 30-40mph and it smashed a hole right through my arch liner and sideskirt when it came out

they hadn't been touched for ages but when i rebuilt them i ensured they were the right way around, and it did it again (but a 2nd hand slider kit)

i bought a new kit and refitted it all - been fine since. infact it's on the exact same rear pads as when it did it in 2005 LOL

^^This, easily done, seen a worryingly large amount of 306's with them in the wrong way!

It must be that they're in the wrong way round. i've been through numerous sets of rear pads in 150K and i'm still on the original slider arrangement.

How do you make sure they are the right way round?
