I've been looking into getting my car converted to LPG.

The question on my mind is, can a company put the LPG tank under the boot where the current spare wheel is? Also, is there a way of using the passenger side rear fake looking fuel cap as the entry to fill up with LPG, so that you have petrol on the drivers side as usual, and LPG in the passenger side?

That way no boot space will be taken up as I believe you dont require a spare wheel. And the filler cap will be hidden.

Also anyother information would be great. I live near Ipswich so if anyone can recommend a trusted local LPG conversion comapany please let me know.

So what will you do if you get a puncture?

The AA, RAC and alike take a dim view if you call them out for a puncture, if your car should have a spare wheel fitted as standard.

My brother had a puncture in the meridian which had the spare wheel removed, he had no issues with the RAC towing him to the nearest shitfit. I suppose it depends what kind of person you get?

I guess so, just that I've heard from a few different people that they had a lot of hassle about it.

Like you say could have just been the particular people that dealt with them, I can understand why they would give you hassle though.

The AA took me to a garage when I had a puncture and no spare but they are funny about it.

Annoying when lots of new cars don't have spares.

LPG is the way forward.
I had my 6 converted last year by a company in Hull.
Yes you can have the tank under the car in place of the spare wheel, I have a tank that gives me a fill of about 55ltr which I get a return in 280 miles from and average about 28mpg.

Cant see why you cant have the filler in the opposite side as long as you get the flap to work in some way and it has the same space as the petrol side. I had mine put in the rear bumper below the petrol cap, it is painted to match and you dont notice it.

If you need to know the ins and outs pro's and con's then dont hesitate to ask..

Who cares what the AA, RAC think, if we pay them our membership then it aint our problem, not like many of them are real mechanics..lol

Don't see how they can have that view any more to be honest, very few new cars come with them any more.

I'd assume they'd be annoyed if you didn't have a can of expanding foam stuff, so just keep that in the car and you're golden. My Granddad just bought a Jag XF, didn't have a spare. My girlfriend bought a Ka, no spare; evidently it's not like it's a cost thing.

Get some tyreweld, it's all good.

I had my 6 converted a few years ago and its well worth it if you intend to keep the car for a while. Every time it mentioned on here the same argument comes up "what if you get a puncture?" Tyre weld my friend!

If your car is standard ride height then go for it but if its lowered then I doubt any garage will do it for you as the law states that the tank cant be below a certain height from the floor.

Punctures aren't an issue in all honesty. I have a few contact who can help me out if need be. Will keep a spare cyclone at home. Then if I do need a tyre I will phone around and get someone to bring it to me. Just hope I'm not far away if I did get a puncture.

Google LPG conversions in Ipswich. Don't just jump straight for the cheapest quote though...Insist you go and look at some of the cars they have converted before making a decision. Alot of cowboys doing these conversions.

so a tank costs about �45 to fill up and you get 280miles?

i suppose thats not bad considering �65 gets you about 320miles on jungle juice ....

is there anywhere you can get LPG cheaper then a petrol station?

Yeah the places that do the conversions usually sell it about 10p a litre cheaper than the petrol stations.

thing is i currently drive between 100-130 miles a day Sad

have not got the capital for another car...

dont want to buy a cheap diseaseal as a run about as this is a false economy

had a citroen zx d... that ended up having a shagged rear beam and worse brakes

had a vectra TD that blew up spectaculary with my son in the car

so my best options seems to be convert the 306

There is a member on this forum that did it few years back (Mankee I think) and I think it was said that performance was basically the same Yes
