Hi all,

Firstly mods feel free to move this, I didn't know which section to put it in...

Right, my moneypit 6 has an unusual issue.
When approaching a certain speed, the dash starts to vibrate along with the wheel. it gets pretty bad the faster I go...
I had 2 new front tyres about 2weeks ago and had the tracking and balancing done then, no difference...

My thoughts are:

1. Driveshafts
2. Warped brake discs Roll eyes

I only say driveshats cause I had a similar issue in my old dt; massive vibration in 4th gear turned out to be a driveshaft...

Any help appreciated, I just want to get the damn thing sorted; the trim squeeks when driving it on the way to work are driving me nuts!

Won't be discs, they only judder if warped while braking, sounds like driveshaft or inner CV joints. Get her jacked up and get underneath with a tyre lever and have a good pull about under there on every part of the drivetrain. Got to be something loose/bent or just plain missing.

Cant see it being your discs, i have a warped disc on my 6, front driver side and it only vibrates under breaking.

yeah, I'd prettymuch discounted the brakes.

Any ideas how much ballpark it'll cost to get the driveshafts done? I presume (nub question) if the cv joint is buggered the driveshaft will have to be binned?

Have the wheels balanced elsewhere.

Tighten the wheel nuts up.

I'd vote wheel balancing not done properly, sounds exactly like what I had when I got mine. Cyclones are a PITA to get done!

hmm i know cyclones are a PITA, but the balancing'd have to be so far off; the whole dash feels like its gonna jump off and wrap around my face :S

and the wheelnuts are tight! lol

You got any decent ones lying about Fozz? I know you've literally got millions of 306s! Razz

thing is in my case the wheels have been balanced, they felt miles better when not in the 'juddering zone' on the speedo but the same thing happens as before, in the exact same way, so ive ruled them out.

Basically, it goes like this
45 it starts to shake, gear stick is wobbling a bit dash is vibrating a bit
50 its starts to kick off a bit more and the gear stick is going for it
60-70 the gear stick and dash are going mad glove box is vibrating about like a mofo
75-80 its stopped completely
then nothing really happens unless you lift of at 90, in which case FUll BLOWN vibrate mode on the dash Razz

im pretty sure all of this only happens when liting of (then only for a few secs
or when putting on power
then nothing

yep, another vote for wheel balancing. i got some new tyres off the internet with "free fitting". took it to the cowboy's ranch, sorry, i meant professional garage to get the tyres fitted. then when i took it for a blast it felt like the whole thing was about to shake itself to bits. took it somewhere reliable to get the tyres balanced again, hey presto, problem solved. it's cheaper than doing any of the other things and could solve the problem. i'd start with that.

I went to peugeot garage to get my wheels balanced im sure they lied when they said they couldn't get them balanced, think i may be going else where.

Sorry ed only have the ones on the car at the moment, as all the other cars are at home. Have you thought of putting the spare wheel on? Or maybe ask foobs or phill

well it causes rattles and the wheel to vibrate at 70, but past 85 its really bad, and near and past 100 the dash gets very excited. (speeds exceeding 70mph conducted on private land*)

I spose they could need a balance, but i dont see how this would specifically affect the steering wheel so badly...

I would get the hubs checked before you start changing parts.

The hubs are too bad to change.

If you are not too sure on doing this job a good garage will do for around 1 hour and half's labour (2.3 hours official book the repair time)

The hub is attached to the strut/spring assembly by a pinch bolt set up so you do not need to change the strut.

Good Second hand hub should cost you around £20 to £40.
Hope this helps

Thumbs up

Having stopped and realised, hubs are pretty easy to sort so no worries there Smile Question: are the abs sensors transferrable between hubs? or do I need to make sure the hub i gethold of is an abs one same as the current one?
