I had something like this a while back, pressurising the coolant and that. I changed the hg, and found corrosion on the head on cylinder 4, allowing combustion gas to leak into the coolant galleries. I believe the total cost was £40 to have a spot of weld put on the corrosion, £35 +vat to have the head skimmed, £100 odd quid for a standard hg and associated gasket and valve stem seal set, and about a tenner for the head bolt driver.

If you've a haynes manual for reference, a clean working space, some mechanical experience, basic/essential tools and you're not a mug, you can get the job done for under 200 squids.

you can't get it done under £200, parts +cylinder head labour is well over £300.

rough estimate.

head pressure test hot wash+skim+fit stem seals £135.
HG £40.
Stem seals £10
Belt kit £50
WP £25.
inlet gasket £6.
Exhaust gasket £14
Oil £20
Filter £6
Coolant £5.
Headbolts £15

That's £326 and I'm sure I've missed loads.

add my labour of £150 ish.

Weird car..... its now decided to not use a drop of coolant in 270 miles. Which wasnt expected, and if i leave it an hour iid doesnt have any compression in the rad.
Its not right though im sure, its always been very quick to get hot. Both oil anf water wise.
Seeing as
A ive bought all the parts
B i need the cambelt done
I thinkbits probably worth doing anyway
