Looking smart Thumbs up

Where are the mounting points for the 205 rad? Does it mount up in the same spot as the 306 one?

The mounting for the top of the rad was todays main objective, but it was knocked on the head due to the horsebox.

Im going to make a bracket each end of the rad, and have it bolted to the front panel.

The mounting feet on the bottom don't match the same points as the 6 rad. One foot will sit nicely on one of the more central holes in the cross member, and im going to make a new hole for the other. It will sit in the same rubber feet as the standard 6 rad.

Annoyingly time consuming just doing the little bits like that, but then its got to be right else it will all get flung about when things get bumpy!

Thanks. I'm happy with how it's looking at the moment.

I really only have to sort a couple of final electrical bits inside. Like gauges etc. And to make sure that my dash cluster with my after market rev could ter in it actually works! But it looks better with it set Into the cluster rather than just bolted in elsewhere.

Still need to decide in whether to use my previous sump guard which is bigger and thicker. Meaning heavier... Or to use the Peugeot sport sump guard I have that is smaller and thinner. Thickness wise it's fine, but I'm not certain it covers enough of the box/sump. Which I'm a bit surprised about to be honest!

Just can't wait to drive it again after 18 months laid up!!

Well ive been doing little bits and pieces of tidying stuff up and making it look less cluttered inside.

Got a few more bit to sort, then I shall just have to get the heated windscreen fitted. Hopefully it will survive sitting around in the workshop for another week or so yet.

I have little bits to finish, but the big moment will be this Friday. Back to the rolling road for a remap, and see how the new inlet and trumpets for the throttle bodies do, along with the 4-2-1 manifold!

I know they have changed things as there is now a change in the afr just after 2krpm. So hopefully a bit of tweaking time on the rollers and it should be good to do a few laps of the garden with! haha.

I HATE ROLLING ROADS!!

Well, to be fair it's not the rolling roads fault...

Took the car to be mapped today, convenient garage about 5 miles from home. Perfect!

Got it on there this morning and set to it. Sorted the idle out so it no longer runs waaaay too rich when cold. Then just got onto some initial low down mapping... And then it cuts out. Would that start. ..

Remove a potentially broken crank sensor wore, no change. Getting no spark, so off home for a spare crank sensor. No change.

Call up the resident wiring guru... Crank wiring ok. Sensor ok.

Then find an intermittent signal to the coil... Found that one of the pins in the plug had fallen apart! Not visible until we took it apart! Can't believe that occurred now, it's been firing up ok for weeks now!

Get that fixed, and get Into some mapping, about 25 30 minutes in. Boom. Pedal end clip on the clutch cable snaps off. Again!! Should have enough put my metal conversion on. Grrr.

Decide to call it a day, and going to take it back to be finished on Wednesday. It seems like it really doesn't want to be mapped! !

Anyway, it's a bit of a ramble, but just getting some frustration out!!

That's just cars though isn't it.
You get something good all planned out and lined up then the car plays some games. Dunno

Be worth it on Wednesday though!

Just ordered myself a new Kevlar sump guard today.

Hopefully be pretty strong and also, at approx. 6kg in weight, should take a lot of weight off the nose of the car compared to the original one!

Original guard was put on for protection in the forest. But ive just weighed it and it comes in at 25kg!!

Back to the rolling road on Tuesday. Everything is crossed that it actually goes well!

Was meant to go back last weds, but my car being shot on the rollers also coincided with the brake on the rollers stopping working! I'm guessing the curse of having my car on there had something to do with it....

Hopefully try and fit the keeler sump guard tomorrow tho...

Well, now everything engine wise is sorted, and the car is in one piece finally. I decided it was time for a test flight. Albeit a brief one, as the private runway wasn't open for long...

Anyway, I came to a conclusion. Either I am far more out of practice than I thought possible at driving the car. Or that now its back together, it is a hell of a lot faster than it was before!!!

Ever since I have been messing around with changing things, new engines, gearboxes etc. Top end suspension. Ive never been able to work out why I actually seemed slower than when I very first got the car with a near standard engine...

I think its because the previous tune on the engine, really wasn't a great job. Safe, and ran fine yes, but certainly not giving its best.

Now its been re done, and with the car hopefully being lighter now also. It feels brutal accelerating. It actually took me by surprise at having to try and change gear quick enough! That's kind of how I always wanted it, the fast revving machine it should be!

Although I will definitely need to remember to push harder on the non servo'd brakes....! :S

Where did you take it in the end then?

Well the car is even closer to being finally finished now.

Got the heated windscreen fitted the other day. I also tidied up and sorted a few other MOT necessities. So that side of it is all done, and just got to get around to taking it for an MOT!

I also got my single skin fibreglass bonnet on and in position, so I could make the cut outs for the aero catches to go on. All went a lot more successfully than I expected it to! So hopefully that will be off, painted and back on this week.

Im not sure why that picture makes it look like there is a huge scratch in the door! But anyway, one day, soon, I shall have it finished!

Well hopefully something before the end of march. Time dependent though really. And im not sure where or what event yet. Im hoping there is something around East Anglia, or as close to me as possible in the next couple of months or so.

Just want to do something local-ish to give it a shake down and see what falls off, before heading back out to Belgium later in the year, all being well.

If you get chance please could you post up a pic or two of the top engine mount assembly?

I'm thinking of going down a similar route and looking for inspiration. Cool

Well, I finally got the car all sorted, finished and back out in a rally!

Headed off to Mira proving ground for a single venue rally there. 8 stages, 70+ miles.

And im pleased to say a 99% trouble free run!

The car ran great, the best its ever been, since it had its remap. And I finally got the gear shifting in order, having gone back to basics, and making the most of the dog box.

The only problem we encountered was when one of the bonnet pins sheared off! No idea how, but it did meant he single skin bonnet was flapping and bending like no tomorrow, only being held on one front corner. No idea how it didn't snap, but it lives to fight another day.

Conisdering ive had 2 years out from competing, and the car was totally different to before, I was pleased with the result. We came in 20th overall and 7th in class. And considering the big money/power escorts in the class I was pretty pleased!!

Sounds good, glad to hear it all went well. I've got 5 aerocatches on my bonnet now, 3 at the front and 2 at the rear!
