Gave the GTI a service the other day, plugs, oil and air filter. Afterwards it seemed down on power. It doesn't want to pull as normal. I didn't know whether changing the plugs could effect the coil packs in anyway? Plugs are set at 0.8 mil and are Bosch.

I scratched my head for a couple of days then took it to Pug for a check. No faults except they said it's running cool, under 80c. It's always run cool but I've never had this problem before.

Would a new thermostat sort it, as if it's cool too much fuel is being washed over the plugs as it's not up to temperature?

It run's at about 70c even when fully warmed up. I'm going to throw a new thermostat on it today to see if it makes a difference.

What air filter is in it? Proper genuine Peugeot? Is it running cool on the gauge or in reality?

I've got something very slightly similar - mine runs are normal temps (80-90c)but i just fitted bosch super plus plugs (the ones with the 4 electrodes). Now it seems to runs smoother at low revs but doesn't pull quite as hard in the high rev range?

Does this sound like what you've got?Crazy

Sounds like a thermostat issue to me for the cooling, get a new one in there ASAP. As for the lack of power, did you put in the correct heat rating of plug??

Stan.

I've put a new thermostat on it, no difference. When I changed the plugs originally I put a set of Denso's in it, I've used them before with no probs, but these were iridium.

Could fitting the wrong plugs knacker the coil packs? I've got Bosch in the car now and there's no fault code for a broken coil pack.

I had a look online and faulty coil packs can result in a loss of power?

Is it worth a go replacing them?

If a coil pack was at fault it would run rough and lumpy and the exhaust would rattle and shake around.

Cheers Carl,

I changed the air filter too, maybe that's upset the mass airflow sensor?

Where is that on the air system?

These cars do not run an aiir flow metre, it's all a throttle body with stepper motor etc.

I have run super 4s for years and have never had any problems. I now have a set in my 6 and it's nearly a year ago I fitted them and no problems what so ever.

Are they done up tight enough? To loose and you will get a tapping noise and Im guessing a slight loss of compression where there could be a small gap.

As said just a guess but worth a check. Good luck
