probs been asked hundreds of times but cant find anything in the search bar BUUT

will a gti-6 gear box fit a xsi 16v and what are the advantage's over the 5 speed

Yes it will, Not allot as it's a weaker box but on a lower power car it should be fine, Ratios are better and you need the P/S ram or it will fail a MOT on lock
