how much would/shud it cost to rebuild a gti6 gearbox

Depends how well you want it done, and what needs replacing. If you want a Peugeot engineer to get it back to being new, you'll be looking at thousands.

Almost certainly it'd be infinitely more than just getting a second-hand gearbox for a couple of hundred quid.

unless you really want a rebuild one, a good used one will be just as good and wouldnt tell the difference.
if your looking at having it build to your spec then yes thousands.
