Morning All!

Does anyone have a picture of the underside of the top engine mount. One that shows the captive nut, and how captive it is...

Mine looks like it has rounded out, and I need to get it out and replace it.

A piccy will help me figure out where to hit it Big grin

It's already chocked, and been welded. It seems my engine just wants to get out of the car!

This just seems to be the next weakest point...

I was thinking about making something to go over the top so the mount is almost completely captive.

have you ever replaced the lower mount / gearbox mount.... if not, and the top is chocked and welded then surly if all the engine movement is coming from the other bottom mounts will lead to stress on the top point?

All changed for Group N spec'ed mounts. When it's not broken it doesn't move at all.

Easier just to take the majority of the mount arm off surely? The captive nut is smack bang in the middle of the dome! Careful if your going to wallop it with a hammer though that you don't weaken/break the weld Wink if the nut has rounded off I would grind it off.

Seems the nut is actually fine :|

The mount itself which is supposed to be a BBM Group N item has far to much movement in it. Seems to allow a lot of travel in the vertical direction, as that's the only way it can move.

So I guess I'll be replacing it. What with is the next question...

Have you got the little bridge piece with the rubber ended bolt underneath in place? That limits vertical movement of the engine as the bolt contacts the underside of the bridge piece stoping the engine from trying to 'climb out' of the engine bay with the torque reaction.

Yeah, got that. buffered it a bit more using a nut to raise the little bolt with it's hat up a few mm. Seems to reduce the movement. Seems the mount is f*cked, and I'm stuck trying to find something better than standard...

If it's a BBM mount it will have BBM cast into the rubber. They are currently out of stock, more due end Jan early Feb

Cool

Yeah, looking into the spoox one as the engine already vibrates the car... and I'm looking to get rid of any movement of the engine when putting down power.

Double checked both the gearbox and the top engine mount. Both BBM, both f*cked.

Spoox fast road models now on the car. Feels like it did when I first fitted the BBM mounts.

Bit disappointed in how long they (didn't) last tbh.

+1 from me on that score, mine went soft in a very short space of time. In fact it only vibrated at idle for about a month and after that they had softened to the point where they felt as smooth as new standard PUG mounts. Solid mounts are the way forward for me I feel, but road miles are no longer a concern Cool
