So I finally got fed up of the Rover. I've had it 7 years and nature's lightening is well underway.

So I only really looked in one direction. French. I've had my HDi for 150K now and it still drives beautifully. So, 1500 queens heads later and one hell of a road trip in the dark and i'm the proud owner of a '99 Bianca Rallye.

As you can see it's not quite standard. I've had it about 5 minutes so not even touched it yet but the shopping list will be going sharpish as will the mirrors...

He's gone a bit overboard with the stripping and I need to put a few things back in (no door seals!!!) but all in she's perfect for my needs really. It comes complete with OMP roll cage, 2 Cobra Monaco buckets with 5 point TRS harnesses, coilovers and a suede OMP wheel. Bonuses being when I got there i found it had a cat back stainless exhaust but bad points being the engine is a previous cambelt snapper and sounds like a sewing machine. In fairness, I expected that and have already lined up a replacement...

It's going to be an RWYB car that i'm not trailering, so 11 months MOT on it was handy too.

I'm thinking supercharger, solid beam mounts, some 4 pots, a lightweight flywheel, a Xsara VTS rear beam (to sort out the now-high rear) and a Xsara VTS quick rack and 5 speed box but will have to see how funds allow. She'll be ready for track action come the sunnier climates of 2011.

Any advice appreciated on parts or directions I should go, would a Kaaz diff help for a dedicated track toy?

Yeah i picked it up earlier in the week, just not had a chance to do anything with it yet since I parked it up a few nights ago. Thought i'd add it on cheekily when I updated the mileage on the HDi lol.

I'm interested on opinions on diffs so keen to hear experiences with the different ones. Would there be a compatability issue between Rallye and VTS boxes - ie do they use the same diff?

I see she's used to the kind of treatment i'll give it anyway. Laugh. He'd have done better on a hillclimb without Fullrun and Aurora tyres...Laugh:

Thanks for that Ash.

The wheels, not even sure what they are, not looked yet. They're 16's so if they're a decent weight i'll just get them shotblasted at work and powdercoated at my mate's. I need 16's to clear the 4 pots that are going on and the lasers will be going to my brothers HDi. Big grin

Yeah i've had it 7 years and i don't really feel the love for it anymore. Was tempted when China Vagina came up to get rid but I was on the way to getting the TVR. Then I returned to the track and decided I couldn't do without lol. What I make from the Rover I should cover 90-95% of the Rallye build, so that's my main aim.

I actually get to see it for the 2nd time tonight having dropped it off at home a week ago tomorrow. Laugh

It's due a full safety check of all nuts and bolts, and needs waterproofing as it has no aerial and a hole in the rear window where the wiper lived. Razz

Yeah the HDi is piling on the miles again at the moment, takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

Rover is here:

Can't wait to get stuck into the Rallye. It's been a long time with the Rover but needs must. Couldn't bring myself to track the Cerbera (although insurance covers it!) and I thought i'd rather build something dedicated.

Sounds like that Cerb had some dodgy electrics, cases of spontaneous combustion are mega rare.

Sounds like my mate Si. Is is a Purple 200, resprayed white himself?

It was circa 270 bhp when it worked. Piece of crap aftermarket clutch would work one minute and slip the next, couldn't even do the job of the 50 quid ebay clutch that was in it previously. Decided I had enough of spending money on it and wanted a change, wanted something dedicated for the track. Said it would die by my hand and not some chav scrote looking to whore it for parts for another ZR Turbo 1.4 conversion innit.

Anyway, this thread is about the Rallye. I put the Rover up before and nobody cared. LOL

good point.

The spray job on the wheels is rattle-can-tastic but i'm thinking about powdercoating them white if they're a nice lightweight. They'll go nicely over my Brembos. :p

All in it's fine. Needs a new set of rallye decals as they've all faded, few stone chips on the bonnet and it's missing a rallye blank from the bumper. All in, not too shabby.

Common fault apparentlyBlink

Fuel lines rub/chaff on bulkhead, then spray a fine mist of petrol onto the exhaust manifoldSad

I "borrowed" this and had a mini hoon around the 'boro last night.

Going from a standard rallye the difference is massive.

The car feels very direct and responds instantly to any inputs with the steering/throttle. Makes you feel like a hero driving it too with the exhaust noise and buckets! Big grin

Just needs some TLC but you have the parts/knowledge/money already. Just need the time now!

Haha only just noticed this. Glad you enjoyed it, noticed you disappeared for about quarter of an hour lol. It didn't do bad for 4 mismatched budget tyres on ghetto rims! I don't honestly know WTF the previous owner was thinking but good to have a second opinion.

The master kill switch comes in very handy when i'm away, however I really need to weatherproof it as it had icicles on the inside of the roof last time I saw it. Rover stripping seemed to generate more than the target so i've been busy buying parts over the holidays but not been anywhere near the car to fit them yet.

Bodywise i've de-stickered it and following the unfortunate demise of CUJ's Bianca Rallye i've procured a replacement rear bumper, a replacement drivers door+loom, some standard mirrors and a few direct replacements like the missing splitter, gloveboxes and the broken time clock. I've also bought a new set of Rallye decals to replace the missing/faded ones from Rick.

Performancewise I have a set of Gaz Gold coilovers, some BakerBM solid mounts, some Michelin slicks and a Hybrid ARB sitting in the conservatory at home.

I have also initiated the purchases of:
a Supercharger kit with the engine (cambelt and water pump recently done - current engine has a none-typical tapping noise, only appears when warm)
VTS box
VTS rack
VTS beam
Brembos

I suspect it will be a little while before I can fit most of the above, not only due to the inclement weather but also because I have other things to deal with and am pencilled in for a stint overseas at a currently undetermined point in the new year. There are a few assets to be liquidated from it when new parts replace others.

Can't see that link but I guess it's probably Mook's blue one.

Anyways, this thread is for Rallye! Rover is long gone. Sad

When I drove it the only shit things were the coilovers felt a little bouncy on the front end and obviously the tyres are gash. All of which you have good replacements for the ones on the car.

Didn't push it too hard to see where it falls down next but I imagine you would be wanting a LSD to help pull the front round, esp on track.

yup i'll get that when i need to sort the box. I've got a few things on the shopping list i'm working to get a hold of. It's not easy to push with those garbage tyres but as soon as i can get some decent 17s i've got good rubber ready and waiting. Sadly the 206 vortex idea went out the window with the fouling on the coil overs.

Why 17's for track work?

Surely a nice set of 15's where you can fit bigger brakes is what you want as it will beneefit the handling far greater than the mahoosive chav 17's will! Wink

Think he has some 17" slicks to use on track.

Plus you can't run 99% of 15" wheels with ash's 310mm kit can you...

16" is the best compromise imo but the tyres are expensive compared!
