Alright chaps, is it worth getting a remap on the factory (apart from k&n and cat back magnex) 6 engine? I have heard that they don't give a noticable gain in bhp / torque.
i don't plan to uprate to cams etc for the time being.

Whats your views on this

Don't bother, I doubt you would ever notice any difference. re-maps don't really do anything on these engines and a few have had it done and regretted it. And don't mention the dreaded word "Superchips".

Keep your cash in your pocket.

If you go for cams then depending on the spec of them you will need a remap.

Plenty of info on the forum with regard to maps.

What is the best way to 180 bhp, bear in mind i don't want to lose the low rpm torque

NO more than 500.
another question, my cam pullies are the adjustable ones, is it true these can be 'optimised' for more grunt. i read on here a while back a chap had a 6 with magnex/k&n then retimed cams and ended up with 184 bhp

the cams can be advanced alittle, it normally give upto 10ft lb of torque but the peak power is brought down the rev range a touch. seems a worthwhile mod although i have never done it.

spend your money on suspension, decent discs and pads and a good set of tyres..

could be of help

Not at all - max power was at 6300rpm, max torque a bit lower down. It lost its cam 'kick' at 4k, just pulled straight through. I would change at 7k, but it didn't feel like it was losing power at that point.

I didn't manage to get it RR'd before as I bought it 67k without a cambelt change so it was a priority. The advancing was done at that point. Had it on a few rollers which all saw the same torque figure of 154lbft and varying power figures from 170 to 179. It wasn't a slow engine (well until its last trip out lol).

i had a srtandard gti6 in its early days of ownership and my mate had a superchipped one. we both fitted stainless exhausts and filters at the same time and i can honestly say apart from fuel consumption it made absolutely no difference whatsover (The chip that is). The rollers gave a different story though and his was returning about 180 compared to mine was around 172 if i remember correctly.fuel consu, ption was better on the chipped one though. when you look how easy it is to get bhp on turbod cars it really is not worth the time and money. save you r money fit a stainless exhaust/filter at least it will sound like it is going faster !!.

Is it really worth spending money to get such little gains? Fair play to you if you actually notice any difference.

maybe not... but its a good way to tie in all your breathing modsYes Changing the airfilter inlet length and a decat can have an effect on fuelling, hence why most people on here seem to be replacing lambdas every 6 monthsLOL
