Phoned the technical PSA department at the local importer ,they didn't know.
then the UK information request line, They told me that it will take a day to check.

unbelievable, no one know a straight answer like the American.

So buy a Perkins engine and use that then.

The engine numbers will be sequential but without reference points you'll have to hope Peugeot still have records. Don't hold your breath though.

Are you talking about a new engine or a used one?

For used ones the physical age of an engine is irrelevant really. It could have been fitted to a vehicle straight away or sat in storage for ages. Then, the vehicle could have been sold straight away or been in storage for ages.

Then, the owner could have looked after it really well or abused it and not looked after it properly. How well it's been looked after is much more important than it's physical age.

I might would if it was legal here.

Obviously you the smart one here ,but i want to eliminate fraud, since i can't test the engine before purchasing, that's the least i could do.

I know, but i can't check engines remotely,
i can't deal with private owners or small scrape yard business in the UK, the only choice that
i got is big enough reliable used car parts business that can deal with the shipping.
can you recommend to me some?

What are the shipping issues? Are they that no-one will ship to you or is it an issue at your end?

I personally wouldn't trust a larger company for this. (assuming you are after one of our engines) You will probably get the wrong engine delivered.

As said even buying a S/H engine in the UK is bad enough to the extreme I would never buy one without hearing it running at the very least

Yes, i'm after Xsara VTS 2001-2002 low mileage engine.

Big Company can backup it's warranty,
but i can change my mind if you throw some good Insights.

you'll find most Frenchmen in my experience do speak some English or at least know someone who does.

If you were to contact France an English to French dictionary should get you by. As soon as you make an effort they start speaking English. A strange race.
