At last I have stopped my top engine mount from flopping about!!!

Me and kebabman discovered moons ago that if you chock the top mounts buffer the mount does not move at all!! result

Got so fed up with engine movement as I change gear and come off clutch Angry

Even with new mount there was little change Sad

Basically all I did was remove the top cover part of mount

Made up a piece of 4mm angle. Drilled a hole in it.

Wedged it between mount buffer and body (totally locking the mount so it can't budge)

Then bolted it down with the existing bolt that holds the cradle on

It's amazing the change it makes to the feel of the car Shock

Result Big grin

thought it was a bit odd that there was a gap either side.

was it like this from new?

Ohh....

Dom do you reckon i could use those rear beam tensioners in there rather than the killing the ride on the back of my motor


They are poly so would offer better resistance

Dom forgive me for being awkward but why did peugeot leave such a big gap in the first place ?

This may sort my exhaust problem out as well ?

god knows why the gap is there?

Car is a million times better with mount shimmed Yes and less movement means less exhaust trouble Yes

what sort of symtoms are there with this engine movement as i think mine is the same especialy coming down the gears it drives me mad lol

Dom did you buy that piece of metal with the bend in or did you bend it yourself ? I shall try and fit one of these tomorrow. Did you fit this on both sides of the buffer ? If you didn't won't one side of the mount cover sit higher because of this plate ? Cheers fella.

I fitted two big washers between the front and back of the engine mount which pushes the rubber pyramids tightly against the car which has the same result at yours.

nope - they are trapped as it is a kinda v shape. Well not moved for several thousand hard miles anyway! Doms approach looks a bit more professional!

Initially this seems like a good idea.....but won't this put stress on the engine mount?

It's supposed to have some give in it or there will be stress on the engine mount/bolt it self.

Won't putting a chock/stabilizer in at the top mean stress further down, possibly causing damage to the body where the mount is seated....we all know how fragile that is.

I'm not picking holes, I'm just trying to think of any down sides to adopting this mod. Unsure

i would say that with less rocking, there'd ne less strain on it, although excessive rocking might have been caused by a weekness in one of the other mounts.Unsure

Yep deffo less strain Yes as it was the mount takes a hammering and works loose.

Had the metal in the garage Big grin with bend Big grin

Just fitted to the one side. Yeah the top thing sits higher one side but that's not an issue

Yes, there may be less rocking, but the engine mount is made of rubber so that is will give rather than just break. There is going to be a sheering affect on the mount is there not?

nah

before it pulled the mount from side to side too much which damaged the bodywork underneath and made the mount very soft.

Like this the mount works properly. There is still give in the rubber. I can see you would need to see this in action to be totally convinced Roll eyes

Remember the bodyshell was designed with 1.4, 1.6 etc engines in mind.

Then pug dumped this engine in with no bodywork mods Dry
