Hi
the range of the remote locking on my phase2 td is poor to say the least, i have to be at the side of the car for it to work,,

so i am going to buy an after market remote locking kit off ebay,

anyway i am just after a heads up about where is the best place to locate the unit, i think the passenger footwell is the best place, but is the wireing i need there?

also does anyone know what colour wires i need to solder the unit too?

if not i will have to dig out my haynes manual and try and figure it out Smile

I just got myself a ph2 6 too. I was convinced the key fob batteries were goosed when the range of Central locking was poor.

Then i remembered my 'M plate; 306 XSI had the sensor located facing to the rear of the car.

When i use the fob from the rear or side it works cool. Does not seem to work from the front.

Replaced the batteries anyway(£4 from ebuyer) made no difference

This is only my opinion, i may be talking c**p. May save you some cash though

The reason ph1 and ph2 remote central locking range is crap is because infra red system was used i.e it needs line of sight to work. where as others use radio waves.

Loftlex: The central locking control unit is under the drivers side rear bench. Lift the lower section up and under the backrest there is a recess with a load of wires under there. I can't remember off the top of my head which wires are which but I'll try and let you know once i've found my diagrams.

Pull the rear seat base up behind the drivers seat and you should see something like this:

A closer view of what we are looking for, this is the central locking unit in phase 1s and 2s:

Unplug the black and the white plug and gently pull them towards you a little. Excuse the insulation tap covering the joints in the wires, I was rushing around installing the alarm system and ran out of heat shrink for the last 2 wires I had to join and haven't got round to redoing them properly yet (on my to do list now I've been reminded about it).

On the black plug there should be 2 pins with 2 wires coming out of each, on mine one set is orange and one set is purple, the may be different colours and have different numbers on a phase 2 but they should be in the same location. The orange ones (closest to the end of the plug) are the lock and purple are the unlock.

If that doesn't help copy the instructions to me and i'll see if I can work it outSmile

I've had a look and I have a couple of options:

1st one is to try wiring it up so that the new system triggers the original central locking but this will require some testing to see which central locking wires do what in the new system. They should be wired so that it can control 3 solenoids, you need to find out which one is positive when locking and which one is ground. This needs to go to the orange wire above and then the one that goes positive on unlocking needs to go to the purple one above. However i'm assuming that the standard central locking uses positive pulses to operate and not ground pulses. I will try and check on mine when I have a spare 5 mins. If that hasn't made any sense don't worry I'll explain it better when I have some time later.

2nd option is to completely by pass the standard central locking and use the new system to operate the solenoids in the doors/boot.

I think either way you will lose the deadlocking though.

From what I can see, you would have one solenoid across the brown and blue wires, one across the yellow and grey and one across the green and yellow/black wires.

When you lock it, the brown wire would be positive and the blue ground. When you unlock it the blue will be positive and the brown ground.

I'm assuming thats how it works but the colour pairings could be different.

Many thanks for taking time out to try and help me Dan_s16 and smegal, and every one else who had a look,, have a look at the new diagram on this on ebay link:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290476689003&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123

from my understanding providing the top diagram is negative or positive,,depending on the common line,,(i hope it is)

blue is lock

green is unlock

yellow+yellow/black goes to "common line"

i presume this is earth seeing its a negative system

and if it was a possitive system then i would have to connect this to +12v

am i right? lol

did we have any luck on establishing if the standard central locking is a possitive or negative system?
