iam in the middle of a dilema i am curios of the low boost conversion but also love the n/a sound on bodies.. and both same sort power???

not with what ive been offerd mate.. just curious as too what would be quicker as ive heard alot about them low boost cars not being that impressive...

low boost is about 6k right?

could probably do a 240 bhp n/a 2.2 for about that much if you do a lot of the work yourself.

Ask Daveyboy how much his is costing becasue IIRC 240ish bhp is his target Smile

Personally I would, if you want proven power, go with a low boost conversion. NA route will be a bit hit and missYes If someone could guarantee me 240bhp NA then I would actually prefer that over a supercharger. But that's just meSmile

Go for the 240 Bhp n/a as its far better, cant beat raw power but as everyone has said it aint cheap!

My dream would be 240 Bhp but probably wont happen Sad so I will have to be happy with Jenvey's for the moment

well i can get alot cheap thru people in handy places lol ive got cams already and pistons and rods just need bodies inlet and emerld managment

Not bein funny but i struggle to believe you will get 240 BHP N/A and reliable for the amount of money your talkin, as Welshpug says you will have to do a LOT of work yorself to get close, but i still believe you'll struggle without spending some serious dosh..... well here's a proven recipie for a 240 bhp mi16, gti6 would be similar...


87mm/88mm bore, forged pistons, forged rods, 2.1 td crank.

Sandy brown throttle body inlet, petert inlet cam.

standard head, standard exhaust cam, maniflow off the shelf exhaust manifold.

You could buy Maxi's 205 for 5k with 250ish BHP! And then you would have a complete 205 to play with.

Rich lists it as £4300 on his website. Labour of £750.

My Xsara was £5000 from Carl, this has a larger than standard IC that cost more as well as being a bit more difficult to do wiring wise.

Plus then you will want to fit an oil cooler to go with it, so budget £250ish for that too.

indeed, Maxi's car is said to be quite something, rather a different approach to sarty but in the end still a bloody quick car.

What everyone seems to forget when comparing the low boost vs decent n/a price is the n/a will be a rebuilt engine, new rods pistons bearings etc, the low boost is just a charger bolted to a used 10+ year old engine.

£4.3k inc VAT and labour, so about £3.5k to do it yourself.

Matt raises a good point though, for all you know you could fit the Rotrex and ten minuteslater blow a piston or two through a cracked block or something. Then again a new block is cheap as chips these days, whereas replacing forged items or re-boring a new block could be the downside of n/a LOL

Closer to 4-4.5k

I believe for the road a SC-6 is going to be more drivable than a 240bhp NA engine.

yes but theres positives on both sides.

the boost route will give the option of high boost (with little mods to the charger setup and some forgies) at a later date and give another 100bhp or so.

However as said, the raw feel and sound of N/A is emmense. Throttle bodies sound so awesome, i love them. my bro has a 1.4 xsi tu engine on sandy brown inlet and it sounds fugin gorgeous. 138bhp from a 1.4 not bad Wink

and once your low boost spend a further 2.5k and your laughing with 400bhp!!

Don't forget the torque of the SC option. Mine accelerates a fair bit quicker low down than Maxis highly tuned N/A engine.

N/A for track work though.

Very good point. I went down to n/a route before these supercharger kits came about, i still would now tbh but as said it is personal choice. But i think if you had the cash for the extra 2.5k to go high boost over low it would be better off doing that, if huge power is what you are after!
