Morning,

I changed the front shocks on my neighbours HDI on Sunday with some units from a GTI6. Also changed the droplinks and all was well.

However, he is getting a strange noise coming from the front, I've had a look and can see what is making the noise but have no idea why.

When he is turning the wheel back to the left after a right turn, the spring seems to get caught and then 'ping' round an inch or so and makes a noise

anyone had anything like this before or know what it is ?

Great !!

Cheers tho Mei, just means spending all the time again in getting them off and doing the top mounts.

Whats the rough price on top mount kits these days ?

I took the old struts off as they were leaking, suppose as a stop gap I could whip off the top mounts from them and switch them.

Will it cause him any problems for the time being ?

should be fine to use the old ones, as logn as they don't fall apart on disassembly LOL

though for the price of them, I'd just fit a pair of bearings straight off as it saves you several hours in stripping the car down twice.

if the top mount rubbers are ok you can get the bearings on their own from GSF for £19 the pair.

Drop link off, strut pinch bolt off, push hub down. Spring compressors on, 3 top bolts undone and pull strut out ?

yup, making sure driveshaft doesn't pull out of box!

often easier to crack the hubnuts off and remove the hub carrier with the strut.
