Cheers Kev, the beam tubes come out well and the plastikote paints nice to paint with as well.

The beam mounts are aftermarket ones, "febi bilstein". I did the research before buying and general feedback is they are one of the best aftermarket ones out there

Oh right, how much were they and where from?Smile

Be interesting to see what you think when the beams on the car,as the general understanding I have got off here is that the Gti6/improved mounts are a harder rubber than standard 306's,and aftermarket companys only offer one part number for all 306's.

Coskev - as far as im aware the part numbers on Servicebox are the same for the beam mounts for a 1.4 meridian (checked with my wifes old VIN no) and the GTI.

Anyone else shed any light on this?

Not much progress today, busy doing other stuff this morning so had an hour on it after lunch.

Plan was to get the boot floor rubbed down and prepped for paint, however following various nuggets of advice i decided to remove the bump stops and look behind there - not bad but surface rust that needs treating with Bilt Hamber hydrate 80 - no worries i have some in the garage - or so i thought! Bollox!!!!!

Got to order some now before carrying on....

Will get some sunday (hopefully before applying the Hydrate 80)

Once treated, primed and painted, im going to try and get as much waxoyl(or similar) product up there to hopefully stop it disolving in years to come.

Tuesday update!

Day off work today, so following the now customary Weatherspoons large full english , I set to work. Last week i managed a couple of hours rubbing down the odd patch of surface rust under the boot floor area. Over the weekend i gave the affected bits a couple of coats of Bilt-Hamber Hydrate 80 - One of THE best rust convertors/treatments.

So today i gave the whole area a wipe down with a strong mix of Autosmart G101, let it dry, masked the area up and then gave it 3 coats of Acid etch primer. Once that had gone off - didnt take long, as today ive been working in some nice sunshine - i then got the black stone chip paint out.

Its actually black stone chip paint made by waxoyl, goes on nice and easy, so i gave it 2 full coats of that.

Unmasked everything and this is the result.

Im going to let it dry fully - then decide if i need to go to the extent of painting it in body colour. Im undecided at the moment, as the way i look at it, if i get it too pretty, im going to end up being afraid to use it, and as it is, ive given it 100 times more protection than it left the Peugeot factory with.

Opinions on the above more than welcome...

In respect of the boot floor fittings, the solid brake lines need cleaning and protecting, and the handbrake cables need a good scrub as well. The exhaust centre section will be coming off soon so i can progress the floor tidy up towards the front of the car (and ive got a Magnex system to fit as well LOL)

Other stuff ive been doing is - Remember the new disc backing plates i bought? I keyed them with a scotchbrite pad, etch primed then painted silver.

I'd ordered two new hard brake pipes from Peugeot (these join the rear calipers to the flexi, by the rear beam mounts) as the unions on the old, and original pipe wouldn't undo.

As the small rear flexi hoses were showing signs of surface cracks, those will be replaced with new parts as well.

Next job (tonight i think) is to get the bearings into the beam tube and get the mounts etc etc all ready to go on next week - Im working all weekend so aint got much time till next tuesday.

Cheers Kev - I knew you'd be saying paint it!LOL

Trouble is, im having a hells hard job finding a close match to Astor Grey in an easily aplyable format, ie brushable. Closest i think ive found is a Massey Furgeson Chassis colour called charcoal grey.... Not bit the bullet and ordered any yet though.

The 2 brake pipes came in at about £24 the pair. At least they'll look better than if i had to make some out of copper eh?

Update - Last nights job was to get the bearings into the beam tube and get the tube bolted to the car, however as we were getting on well, we decided to get the trailing arms in, and the VTS torsion bars.

I'd spent 2 hours the other night in the garage with a small needle file, cleaning up all the splines on the torsion bars and the splined holes on the beam and trailing arms.

I'd kindly borrowed Stu's (stu da rude on here) adjustable dummy shockabsorber which means i could set the ride height at 306mm (the distance between the upper shock bolt and lower shock bolt) After using the search on here i'd found out the normal distance is 330mm, and every 3mm of lowering is a 2mm distance in shock bolt centres, SO setting the distance at 306mm means a 36mm lowering in ride height.

Now because id prepped the bars propperly, and covered the splines in coppaslip, they slid in using firm hand pressure only, instead of being hammered in like some folks do.

We then got the brake lines back on, new flexi hoses, and got the Bilstein B6 dampers on.

Discs and calipers were next, then we gave it neck as it was 7.30pm.

Next jobs are to get the wheels on, get the car off the stands and see how the ride height looks. IF its cock on, and what i want, the car needs to go back on the stands, then the trailing arm clearances can be set, the anti roll bar can go back in, and the brakes can be bled, and all the shocker bolts tightened to the right torque.

If the ride height needs to be changed, its a simple matter of dropping the shocker off at the bottom and resetting it at a different length on Stus magic measurer.

Enough rambling, heres some pics, they are of shitty quality but its pitch black and freezing cold out there, so they will have to do for now LOL!

More updates soon.

Cheers Kev, as they were standard OE finish, i mechanically stripped the loose stuff of with a wire wheel in the grinder, then used the deox gel all over once or twice, cleaned that off, 2 coats of hydrate80, Bilt hamber etch primed then good old fashioned Black hammerite - 2 coats.

Hopefully that should stop the rust pickling back through

I left the bits of the arms where the ARB goes through, until im ready to get the ARB back in.
