I've never had a project thread before, and to be honest this probably isn't going to be the worlds most extravigant project. Funds and time constraints will keep progress slow, that and its my daily drive.

Bought the car back in Feb 2010 for £1,600. FSH with 105k on the clock, although it did only have about weeks tax and test on it, a risk, but MOT didnt cost me a fortune. New pads all round, lambda sensor and free up the rear brake thingy.

This is how it looked, GrpN magnex and K&N cone, apart from that standard.

It had also had a tiny bump on the rear and the paint flaked off the bumper. So that weekend I fitted my Speedline Comp2s, Pipercross Viper, Longlife decat system, Alpine HU, a little stealthy 13cm Alpine set up in the parcel shelf and some crystal headlights.

The wheels lovely though they are had to come off for a while until I could get some spacers made up, wheel wobble just isnt cool.

Then this week I got the spacers back and fitted the wheels asap, the P6000s on the cyclones were terrible, P Zero Nero's for the win. This is how it stands at the moment, you'll notice its had a good dose of polish and bumper snot. My neighbour says if I polish it anymore I should be arrested for blinding people!

I'm off to the Nurburgring in August so got a few plans over the next months. Mainly suspension, Koni adjustables and Eibachs in the garage just getting some money together for new top mounts and rear beam mounts. Needs new discs on the front, so may also upgrade the lines and fluid at the same time. Also it breathes a bit heavy so will be fitting an oil catch tank.

I've been gradually removing the sound deadening (every little helps) and the spare wheels gone. Whats the basics anyone would recommend for a nice road car and occasional track use. Bear in mind the budget is tight.

Cheers.

Probably has a bit of bore wear - mine was the same and always breathed heavily. Had quite bad wear but it died of HG failure rather than that at nearly 140k. Worth doing the lines, fluid and beam mounts imo. Also think about new engine mounts too, esp the rear lower one. Some decent pads wouldn't go amiss either.

Lovely looking car mate and like the wheels Smile

Been and spent a sodding fortune this weekend. New top mounts and other suspension sundries at Peugeot came to just over £150. Then also got some new rear beam mounts from the local factors.

So today I decided to fit the new beam mounts and my Koni rear shocks. Having done this task on my old '6 I was hoping for quicker progress this time. To be honest didn't really rush anything so took best part of four hours.

First up was to remove the boot carpet and loosened the mount bolts.

Jacked her up and used axle stands, would never work under car without. Note I dont carry a spare wheel, with having to run spacers on the Speedlines there's no point as I dont have the correct bolts with me.

Removed the exhaust to aid access. Then had a bit of a mare, all three bolts holding the heatshield on snapped.

Using ramps and some door lining I supported the rear beam. By keeping it at this level removing the bolts was a lot easier as they are not under tension.

Using the trolley jack lowered the beam down to remove the old mounts. Also tied a couple parts up with string so as not to leave them hanging on the brake lines.

Old vs New

After a fair bit of cursing and swearing finally lined up the new mounts. The bolts were only placed in as I only wanted to get the beam mounts up through the floor and caught. The damper mounting was done after as it was easier to do it in stages.

Damper mount all bolted up

Once all the mounts were on and tight it was time to fit the Konis. I found jacking up the trailing arms made it much easier to line up the bolt holes.

Refit exhaust, wheels, etc and go for a test drive. Knocking has been cured Smile Haven't driven it hard yet as the front suspension is being sorted next weekend. Then at some point I need to tackle lowering the beam.

I'm knackered now, must be time for take away!

Spotted this car in Easebourne in West Sussex today, is it still in the owners club family?

Finishes it off nicely hey! I would probably ditch the wiper though, even less clutter and less weight of course Smile

My last GTi-6 was de-wipered at the back, biggest PITA ever, not worth the weight saving LOL Anyway, mine hasn't got any decals so that negates the weight of the back wiper Wink

LOL I use some rain x stuff on my rear windscreen and all the water/dirt just blows/washes off, no need for wiper action Yes

You do realise the decals give you 50bhp extra right? I thought everyone knew that, every day is a school day though i guess Wink
