I was just wondering if ther is any reason why the majority of people that tune our engines decide to supercharge and not turbo???

cheaper as the low boost kits fit onto a standard engine.

also more suited to a FWD application.

yes, but rich_w has developed a bolt on kit you can buy that is reliable and proven. If you want to go the turbo route you are going to have to do a lot of fabrication and get it mapped yourself. Also the straight power curve of the supercharger means you keep grip better than the more exaggerated no power low down and massive power high up.

you could , but it comes down to costing

the exhaust manifold from dp engineering is around 1500 alone
you then need intercooler, injectors blah blah,
also mapping.

The space in our engine bays makes turbocharging a lot more involved than supercharging too.

A low boost turbo would still need a lot of cooling too as turbos heat the air up more through conduction.

You can set a turbo up to boost exactly like the supercharger conversion and it would probably make a little more power but I really don't believe in aftermarket turbo conversions. They are a ballache.

Rich W is running 454 bhp (limited, unlimited I think its nigh on 500 bhp)
Unsure of the torque figure its putting out though.

NOTE the lowered compression!

That much torque is not good for our boxes either.

Binka is running a turbo setup that somewhere near 400bhp iirc. Again, unsure of torque, but those are the 2 people you want to be PMing regarding figures.

It could be cheap though if you can do the work yourself. The lot from DP comes to about £3k (a complete guess at VAT and delivery) although this doesn't include plumbing injectors and the intercooler.
