If you have a decent size blow lamp, yes. If not it's a case of welding arc and let it all boil out (preferably not on your patio, you'll get black tarry s**t that sticks like glue dripping out), grind it back and weld it again.
It's surprising how much time and effort it takes to weld a subframe up decently tbh.

I was going to offer them done at one point but the amount of hassle in cleaning/etc, meant having them acid dipped, then welding, then galv+paint etc - end up with £30 worth of subframe coming to 200 quid LOL

Haha yep I only did mine as it was a spare and cost the sum total of 10 quid to powder coat it!

I recall it being a pain to weld, but it was 5 years ago now! Don't breathe it in, it's nasty!

I have painted the calipers with some high temperature paint.

It said you had to bake them at 160 degrees so, as Mrs Tea was away for the day...

I got a seal kit, slider kit, new pistons and some stainless bleed screws.

I thought it would be a good idea to spray some brake cleaner down the ports before I assembled them, just to be sure they were clean.

Unfortunately, this made my hands go silver.

s**te paint.

I have ordered some high temp lacquer to try to resurrect them.

If that doesn't work I'll have to strip them and start again.Roll eyes

I had some of those alloy tensioner and idler pulleys but, disappointingly, the bearings became noisy after less than four thousand miles.

I bought some SKF replacements.

Mrs tea still wasn't back yet, so I slung the pulleys in the Rayburn,

and the bearings in the freezer.

They dropped straight in no messing with the temperature difference.

Once cooled, I could reassemble them onto the previously cleaned jobbies.

Once I run out of bits to fanny about with, I might think about bolting some of them onto the car.Whistle

Well, I had another go at the seam welded subframe job.

It was a bit of a ballache to be honest, and the chances are it will now be distorted to feck and won't fit anyway. Big grin

Nice work. I was half tempted to do this with my spare subframe, I did make a start on cleaning it up but soon lost interest Laugh my ass off

Yeah, it's from Carl.

It came eventually, he was too busy winning trophies racing at Spa Francorchamps to send it straight away. Big grin

Bit late to the party on this one.
Good work on the subframe.

Phillip you'd have to think given all the work that would go into a modded subframe £200 wouldn't seem so bad? As you say, stripping it, welding it, powder coating it all adds up. I think folk would probably pay?

Maybe, never seemed to be much interest - as you say there's a fair bit of cost in just blasting, plating/dipping and powdercoat before welding - but if there's a few wanting them I might do a group buy and cost up.

Did I read somewhere that you need different bolts for these flywheels, or have I just made it up?
