Reading about the Diesel crank and that would need custom pistons 1mm shorter to accomedate the longer travel.

Possibly the most stupid question ever but would it not be possible to use a thicker head-gasket to give just the right amount needed?

you'd need 4mm for a 2.1 crank.

so no a thicker gasket wont help.

gti6 stroke is 86mm, 2.1 is 92mm, so 6mm total, 3mm either way, so you would need to find 3mm not 1.
if you used it on a 1.9 block though with 83mm pistons which run 88mm stroke, then its 4mm difference in total, or 2mm either side. 2mm could be acheived by having a small amount of material removed from the top of piston and a small head skim, and a repair gasket.

but then its 83x92 which is only going to give 1991cc, so you would get more out of a standard 2.0 (1998cc)

I would assume reading the original post he meant an 88mm stroke diesel crank in place of the 86mm to send him up towards a 2.1 bottom end. It would make sense then anyway.

Kezman, have a look on 205drivers, there are a good couple of threads detailing swapping cranks etc and what can be swapped with what.
Depending on what crank you do mean then I think you could possibly use s16 rods as they are ~5mm shorter than the gti6 ones iirc

arrr maths fail in my post Laugh my ass off

I see what you mean Ryan, you can do this to an Mi/S16 iron block bottom end as the pistons are flat topped and sit 0.7mm under deck level.

you also have quite a lot more space in an RFY engine as the chamber in th ehad is a tad bigger and they have pretty hefty valve cutours compared with the RFS

S16 rods are 152mm, gti6 are 158mm, bit too much difference there Doh

the rod length wont matter because the pistons are different hieghts, works out that the s16 pistons and rods are 1mm shorter in total.

as for the 88mm crank, didnt think of that lol

86x88 = 2045cc

Hmm so its not as straight forward as i was thinking/hoping. Might get in touch with carl or rich see what they think/can do. Is it really a worthwhile mod?

depends if you're going n/a or supercharged, no point really if you're going S/C.

Get some 87 or 88mm pistons made, i can supply you drawings for 88mm pistons that will work with the 1.9td 88mm crank and stock GTi rods to give you 2139cc, not only are you increasing displacement, but with my particular pistons compression also, it also give you more scope to have the combustion chamber modified, mainly to un-shroud the valves to improve low lift flow. Plus i have huge cut outs to run 'big' cams if need be.

Alternatively get some off the shelf pistons, oversize, and get some rods made, think you can have them made for about

......and sounds gorgeous no doubt.

Theres some euro guys running like 98 or 100mm stroke, 88mm bore xu10's. Farndon engineering make the cranks i believe,

3 x Peugeot 306 86mm stroke EN40B Crankshaft (with opel B.E)

Thats what they are showing as stock, only 86mm bore but i bet that would be a lovely piece of kit, especially for a 9000+ rpm motor.

Id love a huge bore/stroke 4 pot engine though, 2.4 litre or something.
