LOL

I've got the exact same mallet as that Carl, best hammer ever.
You could dismantle the forth bridge with one of those and a good chisel...

ive had a few hours again today. ive not touched the car for a while for a few reasons, main one been waiting for parts eg, im currently waiting for a heater matrix plastic box (the one that contains the flaps etc) as i managed to break mine while changing the matrix, anyway its currently on back order from pug and i didnt want to start anaything else until this was done as the car is in enough bits as it is but im sick of waiting and need to get my interest in it again!

the beam is on but ive got some tweaking to do yet, ive got new bolts/nuts and brackets eg and plan on having them chrome plated!
i also need to get new calipers for the rear and refit the brakes.

anyway time to start the cool bit and regain my interst in the project!

i wanted to run it standard for a month before i got on with this part but i think i need to do this to motivate and interest me in it again.

anyway i thought it would help when i come to refit the bonnet cable if i left the string in the slamp panel:

inlet manifold removed (now for sale):

all the aircon is now removed and every aircon pipe, a fair bit of weight saved for a system thats a pain in the arse to keep working anyway.
just the ancillaries bracket to remove now:

bracket removed and marked to cut with some white nail varnish i found in katies makeup bag!

i used a stihl saw to cut the bracket and i must say it did a perfect job, i even managed to get a curve on it slightly by using different angles, then a quick file after.

i also replaced the 90 degree pipe that goes from the fuel tank to the filler neck, it looked a matter of time till it leaked and i want a trouble free car when this is finished if thats possible so on with the new:

i think i will get the slam panel and ancillairies bracket powder coated black.

they definatly leak now lol.
the pipes are scrap but i do have the pump, wether it works or not i dont know.

i had to drain the tank first, but i did this by undoing the 90degree tank pipe jubillee and a bucket below and a few buckets spare just incase.
i wouldnt worry if you have a lot of petrol just make sure you have lots of buckets ready to hand.

see that "new earth cable that connects to the backbox joint"

does that stop you getting shocks every time you get out car? LOL

what does it connect to? does it just touch the exhaust shield?

there is another one that hangs down onto centre section iirc?

but its connected to chassis and touchs the exhaust?

i received a few bits from the powder coaters the other day:

so i made another start and got the engine mount and bracket, alternator and ancillaireies bracket refitted, the alternator was tight due to the powdercoating so i tapped it a few times with a hammer, snap went the alternator LOL so a quick p.m to pugplus and a new one is here the next day.

next to fit the supercharger bracket:

that was a bit of a bas**rd fitting that,i reffited the pulleys and the fixed pulley on the rear of the charger bracket wouldnt go past the chassis on the car so i had to remove the charger bracket bolts halfway to let me angle it enough to get the pulley on, after reffiting the charger bracket i noticed the bolt for this pulkley is very tight to the car, im not sure if thats normal or not:

the manifold is fitted with a ptfe gasket and the charger is trial fitted:

the charger is reomved and the outlet is spun around the correct way:

ive fitted the throttle body to the charger and found it to be a bit too loose so it needs the boost ring housing welding to the charger housing, so i mark it up in the correct place, then i fit map sensor, blanking plate and steppermotor to the the throttle body, a bit stuck now until i can get the welding done.
ive fitted the charger oil reservoir on the chassis near the battery:

next the powew steering bracket and pump is fitted:

now im a bit stuck until i get the charger housing welded to the boost ring holder, i suppose i could replumb in the power steering pipes, ive enjoyed doing this today its given me my enthusiasm back in it.

i got my bolts back:

they look great and i couldnt wait to fit them, i was a bit gutted when i realised id forgot the washers and they were all rustyLOL so ocd kicked in again and off the washers went along with lots of other bits to be chrome plated!
while im waiting and the forums been off ive been doing a few other bits and bobs while i can.
ive done the throttle body wiring, took me a while to find the air temp sensor plug but eventually found it stuck in the reverse sensor plug, its been there since i did the box and that was a long time ago now Doh LOL so i treat it to a new sensor:

here is some of the wiring ive tried to make it all look like it left the factory and i think ive pulled it off.

il post pics of it in the engine bay when i get some brackets back!
i took the handbrake cables off and digged out the new ones

the drivers side was easy to change but the near side needed the exhaust heat shield dropping, fited with new retaining clip:

the spark plugs need changing for colder running ones and i nearly bought some till i found these and realise ive had them ages, so out with the old and in with the new:

i spent some time deciding on the best place for the fan relay box and decided on here:

i sealed the box at both ends with the stuff i used on the sump to stop any water getting in.
ive trial fitted the filter to see what it looks like:

but it all has to come off as im not happy with this welding and its position is wrong, it is to close to the radiator to get a proper bend on to meet the other pipework going to the intercooler.
.
i started fitting the intercooler then realised it looked a bit to close to the rad to fit the spal fans in, so i removed the cooler and fitted the spal slimline fans first, now im just thinking the best way to mount the coolers.
im currently waiting for my chrome plating bits back, a heater matrix box, a tps plug and the intercooler pipework, this and a few other bits and bobs and its all ready to rock n roll baby yeah!
canht wait although it does need the bonnet and bumper sprayinga and a new drivers seat.

the wiring for the throttle body has been extended now and i just need to put some plastic sleeving around it,ive also routed the oil pipe from the charger here:

i fitted the intercooler and then realised i didnt leave enough space for the fans Doh so off it came and i did it again and got the oil cooler next to it:

ive got to remove the brackets when im happy and spray them black, also got to swap the right hand side bolt for a new one like the other:

i may adjust them so there not as tight to each other, but i dont think it will hurt as it is:

the pipework from the cooler to the inlet manifold fits perfect:

but the pipe from the charger to the cooler is a bit tight to the engine:

i have to adjust the intercooler to gain a few mm gap between it and the fans so that may move the angle just right on this pipe and the other side will adjust easy on the inlet manifold joint.

ive got all the charger oil pipework in and tight:

oil cooler top mounting bracket:

waited ages for the chrome plating done and had to constantly chase it up only to receive it back with bits missing and others not done very well but atleast all the brackets came out well.
its not going to be a show car and nobody will ever see them but they look better than the rusty ones on the nice new powdercoated beam parts.
had a right job with the bottom shock bolts, they are too big now they have been chromed, funny as none of the others are but i spent ages trying to get them to fit only to find i couldnt tighten the nuts up and just stripped the bolts so after moping around with my head up my arse somebody suggested the scrapyard, i didnt want to go as i couldnt be arsed with crawling around on my back trying to remove seized bolts but i got my head and some tools together and went:

the first car i tried i was right and after spending half an hour removing the nuts i then bent the shit out the bolts as they was solid so on to the next car and they came out like new, 10 mins and £2 after im on my way back with my new old bolts and a smile, get home and straight back into it.

bolts and brackets fitted to beam:

new brake pipes and flexi pipes fitted with chromed surclips:

and got the little brakepipe heatshield refitted:

new rear calipers fitted with ferrodo ds2500 pads:

i refitted the front brake calipers and the shiny chrome brackets eg:

and bled the brakes using some race spec fluid from halfords, im going to rebleed the brakes when i get another set of hands.

chromed strut brace mount:

i removed the front seats as i have an immaculate set to go back in later and wanted to gain extra space to fit the heater matrix but bad luck came back as i went to fit and noticed it was different, the one ive been supplied with must be the valeo one for the rallye:

so ive ordered the decent brand option one from ecp, so that should be here so i can fit later in the week.
