my M3 is on it's 2rd vanos and i have rebuilt this one twice down to sealing leaks on the solenoids. yes they're not cheapbut you don't buy something like that and expect a

She is pretty and i really like the interior colour.

I would assume that at that age and mileage you will be on your own warranty wise but just got the quote below. Trouble is i have never had much faith in them paying out.

Started the Refurb of the alloys.

After some just giving up and buying CSL's Razz

I thought it get the elbow grease out.

NitroMors'd the laquer off the silver bits only, and rubbed them down with 600,800,and 1200 grades, then Metal Polished.

This is at the 800 grade stage

then after Metal Polish, think ill leave it at this stage, as i dont want them too shiny.

Time for some Laquer Smile

If you get a car with BMW's extended warranty its one price per year up to 60k then this increases for 60 -100k after this BMW's extended warranty finishes. The BMW extended warranty can only be taken out when the car runs out of manufacturers warranty at 3 years, if you miss this by a day you can't get the extended BMW warranty.

CSL alloys among the MOST suited wheels to EVER be produced. I will have them on my M3 (probably because I'll buy a CSL)

Mark - can you do a full write-up on your wheel refurb please mate? I need to do mine too.

How are you getting all the scratches out left by the sanding? I was going to start this myself but wasn't sure if metal polish alone would get them out. Surely you'd need to buff each rim down with a drill attachment?

Will need to know how you get on with laquering too.

I did go to a wheel specialist (http://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/) in Birmingham but they told me they won't touch the M3 wheels as they're diamond-cut. Dunno

Oh btw - what tyres are you running on. Most of the threads on the M3 forums go on about track use.

Actually heres a link to a DIY refurb thats done almost the same as mine

M3Cutters Link

basically i did the same.

1. Wash down Wheel
2. NitroMors the laquer to the Diamond Cut Face ONLY (if you do get it on the Antracite part, dont panic, reb it off quickly) Its best to "stipple" it on with a small paint brush. This is the worst part, if you get all the laquer off its a pice of p*ss from there on
3. Once all laquer is removed, i started with 600 Grade Wet Dry Sandpaper and went through the whole wheel
4. Stepped it up to 800 Grade WD Sandpaper
5. Stepped it up to 1200 Grade Sandpaper
6. At this point the scratches from the sandpaper will very fine I suggest that you buy a Rotary Polisher if you dont have one, i used mine with the hardest sponge head i could get and some G3 Compound to fine polish / cut the scratches out.
7. Once you have worked the entire wheel it will be looking more like it should.
8. I then took a soft sponge head and covered it in Autosol and then worked the Autosol until i got my desired finish.
9. Clean entire wheel (do not use Acid based cleaner)
10. Stand back and look smug at your hard work
11. Try to regain feeling in your fingerprintless fingers

I hope this helps. My wheels have knowwhere near the shine in that link but they are vastly improved Yes and look a million times better than the flakey old ones

Mark
