As some of you know i bought a v6 Rallye in need of a little tlc after Lee decided to give it a good hiding.

Off i set up to Manchester to go see the car.

Here is what i brought back with me after a long time re bolting panels back on and him showing me a wicked computer chair with in built sub etc (that was a brilliant bit of kit), money all sorted and car safely on the back of my truck i sent back off home.

As you can see from the above, the car had its final chance when it wouldn't start and Lee kind of lost his rag with it, (i have to say he is a stronger bloke than me to do that damage to the rear quarters).

With the car back at my garage i first had to see what caused it not to start, after fitting a battery i got the car to start but the starter motor didn't sound very good, so out that came and a repair was carried out on it, she now starts and runs fine.

Next up was to sort the clutch issues, the car wouldn't engage any gears until the engine was switched off, once restarted in gear it was clear to see the clutch wasn't clearing and had no reserve, after bleeding the hydraulic slave cylinder to no avail i then decided to check over the cable and the made up linkage to convert from cable to hydraulic, with a few new nuts and bolts in place and a unseized joint we once again had a clutch.

Once we had all the noticeable bits sorted i decided to let the engine run up and get it up to operating temperature, whilst the engine was running i decided to hoover up all the glass (how many tiny pieces of glass make up a medium sized bloody window!!!) It soon became apparent the cooling fan on the front wasn't working as it should as it made a noise but didn't spin the blades, off it came and a new one ordered in, the screw had decided to come off and ruin the plastic mounting.

Well now i had got to where i was happy the car was good mechanically i decided to get on with the bodywork, a few phone calls around a few painters i was happy with a full respray and repair of various panels for

Its very bright, i choose the shinest shade and had it painted in base coat and laquer, that way the car will never fade again.

Cheers Carl
Got most of the parts lined up for mine now - just got to get the clutch an oil. Then modify a few bits here and there. Will also try to weigh a few bits before they go in.

Well i got to the garage this morning about 9am, sorted out a few customers who thought i was open and then set to work

Got the car into my workshop from the body shop-

To look at the car it looks more or less in one piece bar some trim work but believe me that's not the case, the doors are totally empty and have no handles locks or anything, these all needed to be transferred over from the original damaged doors.

Here you can see the state of the car at the minute and lack of bits and pieces where they should be-

Also a boot full of crap as well-

I set to work putting the rear bumper on and sorting all the rear lights out-

With the rear lights and bumper in place i then fitted some led style bulbs for the number plate lamps, have these on my own Rallye and they are a great little touch, nice and crisp clear light-

With the back of the car starting to look like a 306 i set to work about putting all the sound deadening back into the rear quarters and refitting the inner panels and rear quarter glass, i fitted some glass from another car i had previously scrapped so not to have the original dark tinted windows (removing the tints is a nightmare with all the glue)

It was now the task i was least looking forward too, the front doors, i had to remove everything from the old damaged doors and transfer it over to these, if anyone has worked on these car before its easier said than done and i did manage to cut myself a few times, after a few hours i had this-

All new patches for the inner parts of the door bar one, i used a bit of masking tape for good measure-

Then on with the door panel, you may notice the panel is a bit dirty but then again so is the rest of the car, going to go mad on cleaning it all built up once i finish.

By this time i had had enough and decided to do something that was easy and made a change to the way it looked, i then fitted some Rallye decals-

Thats when by 4pm i thought thats it and decided to park all the cars up ready to go home-

Well after i put the cars away and locked up the main garage door i just couldnt leave it so dug out some headlamps and got them onto the car-

Got all the lights working (easier said than done as the car had a set of halo style lights and all the wiring had been modified)

With the lights in place i thought it would be rude not to fit the lower hocky strips and grill-

Thats was it, was now 530pm and i was starving and needed to go home, put all the kit away and took one last photo, the bits that i have left, doesnt look like i have done a great deal-

Sorry for the awfull photo's ony had my phone on me.

Carl

paint looks brilliant!
whats the deal with wet and drying paint once sprayed. i dont really get why you would do that. yeah removes orange peel effect, but is that it, that the only reson? seems a very risky thing to do to fresh paint.

Its a very common practice, i would say 90% of garages out there do it.

well rescued! Thumbs up you could see (quite apart from the domestic violence wounds!) with all the many little things you had to do to it, it was well on the slippery slope..

I know one question i'd love to have answered, once it's all built up: how much does this rallye weigh? Wink

Doing this to sell on eventually, I want to get it all finished and run it for a while and go from there, think it will be a great car once done, adding it up so far I have spent quite alot on it.

I would say by Tuesday it should be all built back up and ready to tear the streets of Leicester.

I will get it weighed once it's all finished Mike, I am interested in that figure too.

Carl
